NHS Orthodontic treatment - 1 or 2 types of braces

Is anyone aware if the NHS funds the full cycle of orthodontic treatment if multiple types of braces are required ie block braces plus fixed track braces? Our NHS orthodontist has advised the NHS will only fund one or the other, not both. However our DD will need both treatments. Any advice welcome

I'm really shocked at that. If she needs both she needs both. What options has your orthodontist given you? Is this in a dental practice? Do you have a dental hospital near you?

My DD and a few of her friends had both on the NHS within the last few years...

Ds had both, via hospital orthodontist.

Thats not true at all, both types will form part of the same treatment plan. Blocks are utterly transformative, almost magical and prevent extremely expensive surgery. It would be madness!

Is this a specialist in practice or hospital?

Both funded here

Thanks for your responses. I was unsure, as it sounded ‘reasonable’ at the time but not after we left. It’s a Bupa Orthodontist on the NHS referral system via the the dentist. The orthodontist advised we only had ‘one’ NHS funded treatment - which they advised should be the more expensive fixed brace treatment. However we sought a second private opinion that said we needed both. The window for block braces to be effective is now very narrow but the NHS orthodontist is now saying they won’t do block braces as the remaining baby teeth are now mobile - they weren’t when we first saw them - and they need to be removed and adult teeth erupted before they will start - which will be too late for block braces to be fully effective. I now either need to pay for private block braces (the private ortho said it’s fine to fit them now with baby teeth still in situ) or find some way to get an overturn on the NHS orthos decision.

Local policy here is that they won't do twin block braces before 12. DD had all her adult teeth by then!

Has anyone experienced twin block braces over the of 13? Or with baby teeth still in situ?

There is a long running thread on here. Ds was about 15 when his block brace was fitted, had last tooth removed beforehand and was 19ish when treatment finished.

Block braces fitted at 14, timed perfectly with adolescent growth spurt and worked amazingly to bring alignment, now fixed train tracks for final correction of bite. All NHS. It's really hard with orthodontics as they are so thin on the ground they have you over a barrel really.
