Any Cerazette experiences? Feeling concerned

My DD has been prescribed Cerazette. She can't have the combined pill due to migraines with visual auras. The implant may be an option in the future if she's okay at her review. She has acne, heavy & irregular periods and a boyfriend so wanted 3 factors considering. We've since read up on a lot of Cerazette info and concerned that acne could worsen and it can also cause quite significant low mood. Acne, scarring and this causing loss of confidence have been issues during teenage years. Have exhausted all Mumsnet talk topic info about Cerazette but wondered if anyone has recent experience or info.

I’m definitely not a teenager any more but still suffer from acne. Tried Cerazette a few years ago and whilst it didn’t make a huge difference to my skin I did suffer terribly from very low mood which happened very quickly after starting it. I went on to Noriday and was absolutely fine, no side effects at all.

The different progesterones affect women in different ways so it might be trial and error to find the right one.

I'm far from being a teenager, but I had the reverse experience - low mood on Noriday, fine on Cerazette. Both were effective for lighter periods. The low mood on Noriday ceased pretty much as soon as I stopped taking it. I've never wanted a coil or implant due to concern about side effects - as at least with a tablet, you can stop taking it at will, rather than have to arrange for someone to remove a coil or implant. I had acne as a teen, and didn't find that Noriday or Cerazette caused it to flare up again.

Thank you. Noriday was mentioned as a possible alternative if needed. I'm glad you've mentioned it too and had a more positive experience on it.

It made me so Ill. Horrendous mood swings and I had PMDD anyway and it was worse. Then I still
had periods and I got pregnant on it so absolutely do not recommend

Thank you too. That's reassuring that you were ok on Cerazette. Side effects do seem to be very individual. Going to see how she gets on with Cerazette and monitor any side effects.

I was on it for 8 years in my 20's and it was good and I would recommend it for painful periods and contraception.
My skin was only bad on my chin and that cleared up with age rather than the pill.
I did have the progesterone only injection and that significantly impacted my mood! I was an angry person at the start of the dose. I have not had the same experience on the pill form.

I had to move onto Cerazette in my twenties because of migraine with aura. I've never had acne so can't comment on that but it did absolutely destroy my libido to the point that the contraceptive effect was moot. I ended up moving to a Mirena coil which has been perfect for me but may not be appropriate for a teen.

Gosh this stuff made me so sad and depressed. I ended up having to leave my (lovely) job because I was feeling so dark, helpless and i couldn't stop crying.

I also can't have some other pills due to migraines.

Magnesium sulphate before bed cleared up my acne. Doesn't work for everyone but it's cheap, cheerful and definitely helped

My DD tried Cerazette for exactly the same reasons, but couldn't get on with it after 6 months of trying. Constant spotting and said she felt sad on it. She had a 6 month break and went on Noriday and no issues.

I took cerazette after being on the combined pill for years (I was apparently too old at the grand old age of 35 so had to change).

It give me cystic acne, made my hair terrible and the mood swings were something else. It did stop my periods though and I think that's why I tolerated it for so long.

Having said that I'd say tell her to try it and if she has problems it's easy to stop. I know lots of people who take it and don't have side effects so it's trail and error unfortunately because we are all different.

Absolute life saver for painful periods.

And as the periods stopped, so did my menstrual migraine which was also nice.

I am on Cerazette and haven´t noticed any low moods at all and I recommend it thoroughly. Been taking it for a year now.

I can't take the combined pill and I had acne into adulthood. Cezarette was fine for me, didn't make my skin any worse. I found it maybe did make me feel a bit low or emotional at times but it was the best option for me really.

I’ve been on it nearly 15 years and love it. No side effects, no periods. I’ve got complex medical issues so it’s one of the only things I can have contraception wise and I’m now 42 and in early menopause and take it as part of my HRT (alongside Oestrogel and utrogestan). I had very bad skin as a teen to the point I was on Dianette at one point (which is black listed now) and Cezarette didn’t make any impact either way on my skin at all.

I think contraception is really personal and there is no way to know how you will react on it. I've been on cerazette for about 3 years now and my skin is the best it has ever been, I haven't had a period for years and have no hormonal mood swings or low moods. It really suits me.

Also - I know it has its controversy but my dd went on roaccutane aged 16 and it was the best decision ever, completely cleared her acne up when nothing else had and now aged 20 she has completely clear skin and it’s really helped her confidence. She said she’s so glad we let her go on it. She had very minimal side effects.

My DD started on it at 14 to reduce migraines and vomiting from her periods, it worked. She has been on it several years now and hasn't had any issues (skin or mood) still has an occasional bleed but I sometimes think this is because she's forgotten a pill.
I also take it and have for over 10 years, also no problems. I still take it to top up the progesterone part of my HRT.
