Feel crap, big blow out with ds, I am not being a good parent today

In a fit of anger I have just totally unreasonably banned ds from going to a sleepover party. He says he hates me and I say I hate him too. I feel like I havent lost it like this in years, and dont know how to recover it now. I feel like I've just driven a big wedge between us and can imagine him in therapy as an adult hating me and its all patterns repeating themselves. Oh god.....

Don't worry - we all have days like that, and whilst they are shit when they happen, give it some time and apologise, and no harm done.

If its any consolation I have been horrid shouty mummy today too, but all things are even now, so don't fret.

Ds is so much more mature than me, he has tried to smooth things over now and I am stuck in this position of silence. I feel that I am very distant from him generally recently and I recognise his feeling hurt at my indifference and dont feel able to change anything. Misery.

like they say in all the parenting books, get angry, say your piece, and move on

can you talk to him reasonably tomorrow and come to a deal, where he resolves whatever mistake he made and you allow him to go to the sleepover?

(though they do say you should never go back on your threats or they'll never take you seriously again.... god it's difficult isn't it?)

Forgive him. Forgive yourself.

Can you eat humble pie and say you shouldn't have reacted like that. Start the discussion again? And say you want there to be a different outcome, ie well we did it the angry way, now let's do it a better way

I went into my son's room at the weekend after it had got all shouty and just smiled and said Pax! I had left it a little while. The look of relief on his face was lovely.
