Bed for a 13 year old girl - high sleeper or double?

Not exactly deep and meaningful! My daughter currently has a high sleeper. It was fairly cheap and is getting wobbly as she gets older and heavier. I thought about replacing it with a better one with the little sofa, desk and pull out bed underneath. Her younger sister has one and it looks great. But I'm conscious that in a couple of years she may not want to be in a high sleeper, she might want a double bed. So is it worth spending money on a better high sleeper?

But the high sleeper is more practical for the space and if she has friends round.

When did your teens stop using high sleepers?

We've just got our 12yo a double bed that folds up into the wall. Gives her lots of room space when she wants to empty her wardrobe onto the floor (regularly) but bed space for sleepovers.

Double bed. Mine all wanted them at high school age.

Both my kids have small.double beds.
We got rid of dds high sleeper when she broke her ankle and couldn't get up on it.

We got a high sleeper with desk for Dd when she was 9. We gave it away in lovely condition 3 years later. It wasn't cheap and I had hoped she would use throughout teen years. She didn't like it anymore and didn't like bumping her head when getting up from the desk either. Having said that we gave it to a girl who was 13 and was really excited about it. It might lose its novelty in a bit though.

Definitely a double. She won't want a high sleeper for long. Double will last for ages.

My ds has a high sleeper at 15 but planning to replace it with a double bed soon. Dd 13 has a double bed.

What has she said?
I’d say probably the double bed.
My 12 year old has just replaced her highsleeper with a double. It’s going to see her through for ages now.

We bought ours doubles. They love sprawling out on them.

ArcticSkewer · 15/06/2023 15:18

Double.
They can share the bed for sleepovers

trulyunruly01 · 15/06/2023 15:35

I went with 4ft beds for mine in the early teenage years (but used double quilts).
DD still had hers at 19 when her boyfriend moved in for lockdown, they coped for a while then bought their own blimming bed. Come to think of it, he's still here now...

LadyJ2023 · 15/06/2023 15:42

Small doubles all ours have

Caplin · 15/06/2023 19:41

Right now she wants what her sister wants, a high sleeper with a decent size sofa bed. But I just feel in 2 years she will change he’s mind! Added a pic

High sleepers are a pain to change and the novelty wears off.

Fizbosshoes · 15/06/2023 20:15

Both of mine didn't want high sleepers after about 11 or 12 (and i didnt like changing the bed) but I think I am a rarity on MN that my teens have single beds!

Hmmthatsgoodchicken · 16/06/2023 12:00

I would go for a double. Dd (13) and 2 of her friends fit on her double quite comfortably so they all told me.
If you asked me at 13 I would have definitely said high sleeper. 😂 Now I'm 32, and I don't think my answer would be much different (apart from I hate changing the sheets and they need stairs not a ladder, and can I have a slide to get down in the morning please)

Caspianberg · 16/06/2023 12:20

Double.

The double will give more room with friends visit anyway as everyone can sit on the bed to watch a film etc rather than squeeze on that pull out sofa thing.

Marblessolveeverything · 16/06/2023 12:29

Is there an option to have a double fold out couch under the high bunk - might extend it's use?

reluctantbrit · 16/06/2023 22:04

Double here but it's a loft conversion so a high sleeper would have been out. anyway.

She loves sitting on it all day long despite having bean bag etc in her room. When she has a friend over they sit on it with the laptop. and Netflix.

High sleepers are impractical with changing and unless you have a really high ceiling I could. imagine she will have issues when she reaches full height.
