Hi
We are piloting a 4 day training programme to support young people heading off to university with life skills. We have landed on these areas: budgeting and cooking for yourself and others, mental health awareness, relationships, drug and alcohol awareness, time and money management, keeping motivated and a smaller group session for concerns. We have two weekends, any thoughts about other areas to consider? Thank you!

Laundry and how to do it! So many times you hear of kids who have never done it before uni.
How to heat and ventilate properties properly so as to reduce congestion and ensure it does not lead to mould.

Sexual health, including consent, coercion and contraception. Yes, I know they will/ should have have covered this at school and at home but University is a new world, with new freedoms, new rules, fewer restrictions.

to be fair, I wouldn’t know how to do that either. Surely you just use google to find out.

These are the kind of things you teach your 13/14 year old yourself.

Cooking cheap, filling meals from scratch AKA - don't be scared of lentils.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, we will take all input into account, we are already covering some of these areas and The Nourish Hub who we are working with are doing food budgeting and prep!

Budgeting is really important. How to get a student job. How to pay bills. How to use public transport, for my ds who went from a very rural home with no public transport this was quite a thing to navigate.

General organisation and time management. Presented with a list of tasks, what order to do them in to reach a happy conclusion. This kind of thing stumps my older teens. 🤦🏻‍♀️
