Summer jobs for 17-year-olds, ideally with accommodation

My 17-year-old (currently in Y12) wants a summer job, ideally in some kind of holiday site where accommodation is provided, there are other young workers her age and they work hard and party hard. She is keen to get out of our area, make new friends and have a good time. Any suggestions? My only idea is Haven holiday parks. She would love it to be abroad too but she doesn't speak another language so that might be asking too much.

I suspect a lot of places won't take 17 yr olds...

Once 18, she could sign up with one of the agencies that does festival litter picking? Accommodation not provided as such (she'd need a tent and sleeping bag) but meals are and it's the very definition of work hard and party hard!

She’s too young. She wouldn’t even be allowed to stay in some hotels alone.

Does PGL hire 17 year olds? I know peopple who have worked at their camps generally everone is on the younger side because of how physical it is and there is accommodation

Not a chance at 17! Everyone else would have to be DBS checked.

Maybe next year - abroad in Europe would never work unless she has an EU passport, though Camp America or similar might.

titchy · 04/06/2023 21:35

They also can't work as much as adults.

PaigeMatthews · 04/06/2023 21:38

My friend did camp America at 18. And then got summer jobs in hotels as a live in after that.

since she is most likely too young, what about signing up for the national citizens service https://wearencs.com/

I think this is achievable in Scotland, where more school leavers are 17. Her only having 6 weeks availability might be an issue though. Try looking at the big places like Crieff Hydro etc.

Can she train as a life guard? That would open up more options.

MinnieEgg · 04/06/2023 22:27

I can't even sign mine up to a crochet class because the company running it said everyone would have to have a DBS.

ClareWilsonNS · 04/06/2023 22:57

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it might be hard but some great ideas here.

Camp Beaumont is the summer camp version of Kingswood that do school trips similar to PGL they take staff just for the summer or for gap yearers doing an apprenticeship, is great for someone wanting to take a year out before teacher training or child nursing amongst many other future jobs.
