My friend applied a bank card to her teen girl when she was 13 year old, she spent £1000 quickly, then she seized the card, now the girl is 15 year old, she got her card back from bank.
how old is better age for the bank card
Thanks

@highlandspooce if she's 13+ she can open online with Santander. It must have changed since my dcs got theirs as I'm sure ds was 11 when we opened his. Now for under 13s you need an adult to also have an account with them

Cross posted!

Thank you though I actually never would have thought to look again - I didn't realise 13 was the age to open online, I guess I just couldn't do it so for a pre pay and never thought about it again

My DD is 17 and has had hers for about 5 years. She works now so has her own money but prior to that I would transfer her money every so often, and she could only spend what was in there. However, she does also have access to my bank account via Apple Pay in case of emergencies. She has never abused this and always checks with me before using it (very rarely). Of course if she had ever spent without asking in a non emergency situation I would’ve removed it immediately.

The "right" age for a bank card really depends on the individual teen's maturity level and understanding of financial responsibility. Some kids might be ready for that level of independence at 13, while others might not be ready until they're older. It's not surprising to hear about your friend's daughter blowing through £1000; financial literacy isn't always intuitive!
Since this is a financial education issue at its core, you might want to consider using resources to help teach responsible spending and saving. Websites like interactivets.com offer interactive teaching solutions that can make learning about personal finance more engaging for teens.

Just getting one for DD 15. I will put 100 euros on it.

I would have got one at least a year ago but there were issues with documents in this country that her father made impossible to get.

My dc 25 have debit cards in teenage accounts that I keep at $100 dollars.
They also have Apple Pay linked to my account.

I can see what they are spending and they get to practice budgeting.

We once when they were much younger had a issue with an expensive subscription but we hadn't set the approvals up properly and dc thought the thing was free for ever.

Not 25!! 15.
The phone app still needs an edit button

My eldest two (10 and 11) have rooster cards - they’re really good and just handy when they go out to know they have access to some money if they need it!!! They get pocket money and birthday money added to them so they can spend it on what they want.

My 9yo has a go Henry account with a card. She gets some money at the end of the week for doing tasks. Usually about £3 or £4. She can spend this on what she likes. I have the app so I'm in control but I hope it will encourage her to 'earn' money and workout how to spend it.

My DC got a card when they got a PT job at 15.
It was one that was connected to their savings account and you could only use it to draw cash out, so not to pay for goods at a check out.
