Braces

My daughter doesn't qualify for NHS braces but her teeth are uneven and a bit all over the place. If we go private should we go down the train tracks route, or do Invisalign work for children too? And if so, go with Invisalign or is there another brand that is as good but without the ££££?

Watching with interest!

They are available for teens. Speak with a fully qualified orthodontist and have a consultation. Cheapest not always the best option. My orthodontics treatment took 5 years when I was a teenager. Its worth it.

We didn’t want to wait for years with the NHS our child had orthodontic treatment privately. We opted for Invisalign rather than metal braces and they’ve worked really well. She really liked being able to take them out to eat and then brush easily. Her smile is perfect now.

You do need to have a compliant child who is committed to wearing them! Our daughter is a rule follower so she stuck to everything the orthodontist said.

Invisalign is available for children - look for an orthodontist (rather than dentist) that specialises in children using the search in their website.

There are really awful reviews and scary stuff about the online aligners, the companies where you do not see an orthodontist regularly and only do it via an app.

Invisalign you see them in person on a regular schedule.

Dd is about to start her Invisalign. The orthodontist said fixed braces would've been better (she did but had to get them removed after a couple of months as it caused other issues we weren't expecting).

I'm surprised your child didn't qualify for NHS braces.

What I mean is the online only and much cheaper than Invisalign. Please be very careful. I nearly went down this route with DD but as I read more got worried and didn't want to take the risk.

Train tracks is cheaper and quicker

Jules0702 · 24/05/2023 17:54

You can get Invisalign but I wouldn’t they them for my daughter as she would be constantly losing them

Don’t go the online route as you need regular visits with the orthodontist. You need to have good oral hygiene to have braces of either type or you could have periodontal disease down the line.

My 13yo has Damon clear train tracks. The brackets and wires are white. They look great and are really comfortable. They cost >£5000 however but I'm really glad we went with these over Invisalign. She's been given an attachment for her phone to take scans of her mouth every two weeks and then gets replies from the orthodontist on an app in between visits

greenacrylicpaint · 24/05/2023 21:08

we were advised that train tracks are the way to go with my teens.

for the clear retainer type good dental hygiene is necessary to avoid other issues further on.
plus depending on what needs to be corrected they don't have enough oomph.

Invisalign will only have a limited amount of root torque, therefore it depends on how much tooth movement is needed, but you will get a better aesthetic result with fixed braces
