Dear Group,
I'm pretty desparate now. Our daugher was diagnosed on the ASD and she has been really suffering with axiety and depression for about 4 years now. She stopped going to school and some days just can't get out of bed at all. We have been desparate for help via the GP and CMAHS but we are getting nowhere. Just constant waiting and form filling but haven't even seen a doctor in all this time. Our daugher refuses to speak to anyone except possibly a doctor and we have asked for some medication to try to break the cycle but no help at all so far.

I would pay for a private consultation but again this doesn't seem available. There are loads of websites and helplines but nobody seems properly qualified to help and we have tried all the advice on them e.g. routine, etc.

We are absolutely desparate, she has no education and is missing out. We are a loving family but it is causing a lot of stress.

PLEASE can anyone help us find a doctor or someone qualified to help??? If this was a physical injury she would not have waited 3-4 years!

With DS1 tier 3 CAMHS were useless but once he was referred on tier 4 CAMHS have been much better.

DS3 didn’t meet the threshold for CAMHS but he has an EHCP so we were able to have therapies/MH support included in there.

Cahms have been great with my dd. It seens to vary.

It is definitely worth being escalated up a tier. Dd offered 6 months CBT and weekly therapy.
Also medication.
Only now she is refusing to engage saying therapy doesn't help.

Its a nightmare.

A lot of good advice on here already.
Keep on with trying to get help from CAMHS, hopefully you’ll get some kind of breakthrough to services. Crisis teams are notoriously rubbish but keep phoning!
I concur with a pp who gave the advice that the LA have a duty to provide education. EOTAS for example. (I think it’s after 10 days of not being able to go to school). Are you in regular contact with your DD’s school and the SENCO? If you haven’t already, I’d get the ball rolling on an EHCP. Hopefully school will support this.
Keep a log of everything. A diary of who you speak to etc and what they say…..also how your DD is on a day to day basis.
Just one more thing, if you engage the services of a psychotherapist be aware that they’ll have needed to have done the ASC top up qualification otherwise they’re not allowed to treat anyone with a diagnosis. A lot don’t have it.
I’m sorry your DD is struggling so much at the moment and I’m sorry that no one can provide a magical solution for you. But I’ve always found MN brilliant for support and advice. This lot are pretty great at it on threads like this. Many know so much more than me but I’ve been in your position for a few years now and I can empathise with how tough it is. Make sure you are looking after yourself too. 💐

Provision should begin once it becomes clear 15 days will be missed, the days don’t need to have already been missed or consecutive.

Told you some people on here know so much more than me! Thanks for clarifying its 15 days @ThomasWasTortured

Private psychiatrist is your best bet.

Agree

I imagine the lack of help is partly because of huge numbers of young people needing help that services just can't keep up. Every person I know ( family and friends, collegues etc ) seems to have a teen or young adult with adhd, asd, anxiety, self harming. It's a massive worry. I hope you get the help you need soon op.

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 11/05/2023 14:03

How are you doing OP and how is your daughter? I resonate with this because I was her at her age.
I was at boarding school so it was slightly different because I had to get out of bed and come out of my room etc (no choice!) but they got me infront of a private psychiatrist at the Priory locally and I remember she totally saved me. And I was able to get extra time for my a-levels as I was so so poorly; she wrote that letter for me.
Hope you can get her some similar help honestly it’s the best way forward. Xx

Yes lots of good advice here.

Been here myself with my ds - last summer he was referred to CAMHs. The triage nurse told me, 'we have children here eyeing up the m1 bridge, so your ds won't qualify for help, he'll feel a lot better in 6th form, so many children self harm, it's common in his age group.'

On the second referral they spoke to him (without my knowledge) and he said he was okay (he was having an okay day) and he was then withdrawn.

Utterly outrageous. My ds was self harming most days, screaming, banging his head against the wall, barely attending school, saying he didn't want to live if the 'voices ' kept hounding him , etc etc.

He had 3 lots of counselling sessions, the final
set were zoom CBT which really helped once he (finally) engaged with the programme. Along with his own decision to implement changes in his life, and lots of strategies such as meditation and exercise, he is finally on the right path.

The doctors also gave me referral for a psychiatrist - we didn't use it in the end but I agree with others, if you can afford it, that's what you need to do.

I really do wish you all well, and everyone else's children, it really is such an awful time x

Timkk · 12/05/2023 12:18

itwillonlygetbetter I really feel for you. I'm so glad things have got better for you. It's such a shame that mental health takes second stage to physical problems when they are just as cripling if not more so.
