It Gets Better

Sending love to any parents of teens who are struggling. Our girls are 15 and now 21, both have self harmed in the past, but today is a BIG DAY because we finally feel confident enough to get all the sharp objects out of hiding. My husband's secret location for all this stuff looked like a weapons cache for some terrible massacre he was planning (sorry, dark humour is something that's kept us going for the last 7 years!).

Anyway, I am working from home today and in the pen pot on my desk are these pairs of scissors. I keep seeing them out of the corner of my eye and it's making me smile. Just wanted to share.

I'm so happy to read this. I have a friend whose daughter is struggling currently. What were your best resources or recommends for talking to them?

That's a big day indeed @Em2121 Flowers

Not overreacting, getting a good psychologist, and honestly, I think for both of them, just the passage of time. They’re both neurodivergent and found the early teen years very very hard. I think they will find adulthood much easier than childhood (that’s certainly the case for the eldest).

This is a nice post. We are currently in a sharps/medications lockdown situation but I don't think we always will be. So thank you so much for sharing.

You will get there, I promise. There was a point we didn't think my eldest would cope with leaving home and would be with us long term (she went away to Uni, and is graduating this summer, starting a Masters later this year). My youngest had to leave school at the start of Y9 due to poor mental health and behaviour, and is currently working hard revising and about to sit GCSE exams at a private centre - she has an offer for an art course at a local college and just needs to pass 4 to get in (fingers crossed!). Big love to you x
