How to cope with teen boy

Hello,
My eldest son is 14 and today we’ve had so much angst from him, primarily to me, his mum and I just need a way to cope with it. He tried to refuse his breakfast - suggesting I was force feeding him. I fought against it and he ate it eventually. Tonight we tried to have dinner together and he complained about it. I ended up crying in frustration as it wears me down when my son seems to battle against me. Does anyone have any advice to get through this teen stage please? Thanks in advance x

Agree with everyone else, pick your battles, i spent most of my my dcs teenage years smiling and nodding while thinking that won't end well but you'll learn from it.

Just tell him from now on if he wants breakfast he can help himself as you won't be doing it for him

As for dinner you will be cooking and if he wants it that's fine if he doesn't then he can cook himself something or have some breakfast items that he didn't want for breakfast

Don't cater to him. He's 14 if my toddler can make an omelette (with supervision) he is capable of making some toast or some pasta

At 14 he can sort himself out and eat when he wants he should also be cooking it himself. He isn't a baby he will resent you unless you back off. This is not a problem

you can't make a teen eat breakfast!! He will eat when hungry

my husband tried to do this with my teen he just sounded like a massive bully - he isn't a toddler and knows when hungry or not

My 15yr old never eats breakfast. Neither do I really, some people just aren't big eaters on a morning and he is old enough to have a say in his eating habits. He would also kick up a fuss about eating together, if it's a special occasion I might insist but most of the time I pick my battles and let him eat in his room.

so you did force feed him insofar as you forced him to eat it.

At 14 he should be getting his own breakfast if he wants it at all (and no issue if he doesn't).
