I am finding it really hard to get a recommendation for a counsellor for my dd. obvious routes (school, doctor, friends) have drawn a blank. Short of the yellow pages anyone got any suggestions or recommendations? We need help!

does it have to be private?
have you asked for a referral to camhs...

why can't they make the referral?

Have a look at the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy website Here This is a search function that helps you to find an accredited counsellor in your area. Alternatively, do you or your partner have access to an Employee Assistance Programme through work? They usually offer counselling sessions for both the employee or family members. Hope this helps.

referral will take months round here, looking for a quick bit of action on an emerging issue - don't want to wait until it is ingrained.

Have you tried Connexions or www.youngminds.org.uk. They might be able to point you in the right direction. When my daughter had problems a few years ago the school gave me details of a Teenage Support Worker who was amazing. Although it was private she only paid what she/we could afford which was usually about £20 and it really helped her
