My daughter has random spasms

Hello everyone,
My daughter started having random spasms in her lower stomach about a year ago. It's not that often, it happens maybe once in 2 months but it's awful. When it happened for the first time she scared us a lot. Every spasm is the same - she gets pain in her stomach and she can not stand on her feet. I mean she can not stand straight at all and she always lays in the fetus form. She says she feels like there is some kind of a string all along her belly and if she lays straight then it's going to break and all her organs are going to tear apart.
We went to see a doctor but they couldn't find anything. Do you know what this might be? Or if you have ever dealt with this how do I help her?
Thanks in advance!

I'm sorry to hear this it must be worrying
I'd say she maybe needs an MRI but surely they must have done one?

Yes we did an MRI but there was nothing at all. I had these spasms when I was a teenager as well and it went away but still I am worried as she is in so much pain. And it's so stressful that we don't know what it is.

Your daughter has my absolute sympathy as I've been having the same thing for a few months. The spasms - in my stomach, back and ribs - are excruciating to the point I couldn't get up from a chair, go to the loo, lay down in bed without gritting my teeth knowing that once I began to move I would get the whiplash wrapping around my body effect.

I have been experiencing this and have been going down the route of GP/physio without much effect. Though I am being investigated for any possible spinal fractures (I'm post menopause) as seemingly this can cause the spasms.
Gp did prescribe baclofen which calmed them down about 80% , but totally knocked me out.

Reading up on other causes of it I found that low amounts of potassium can cause this exact thing too. So, started taking it 2 weeks ago, and haven't had any spasms for the past week. So, am continuing with the potassium but have stopped the baclofen totally.

Try swapping heated wheat bags and icepacks periodically on the affected area as that can help. Also lots of rest. My worst attack - before being given medication - lasted 3 nightmare weeks.

I hope you get it sorted.

Forgot to say that when I read about the potassium I checked my diet, and found that I eat practically no foods containing this, so maybe look at your daughters diet too.

Can't imagine going through this that often. Hope you recover soon entirely and thank you, will definitely keep an eye on her diet!

Personally I would look for a good acupuncturist or suchlike. Sometimes the different approach of other medical traditions finds the solution
