I have 2 preteens, a boy and a girl. The interests gap is widening and we are really struggling to find things to do as a family.
Girl hates sports, quite timid, likes crafts, beach, holidays, food, farms .
Boy very active, loves sports, likes football, trampolines, climbing walls, swimming etc.
Neither of them want to do what the other one wants. We are not a sporty family, only our son is. Their dad is off work to spend some time together as family this week but really struggling what to do with them due to time of year, cold Weather and son has an injury meaning he can't do usually sporting activities. Any ideas? We are in the Midlands. We've been out for a dog walk today and a pub lunch

Divide and conquer. One on one time with each of you?

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 21/02/2023 19:14

We did separate activities with school friends on Monday. We like to do things together as family whilst we still have to chance. We know they will be our with friends all the time very soon ( son is out alot already). I honestly don't know what we will do when they don't want to go out with us anymore. We've had over ten years of doing everything for the kids and all their attractions etc. I am going to miss it so much

Yes I get that. It happens fast.

Could one choose the activity one day and the other the next? With agreement that they both do it?

i would get them to write their choices and pick something from way down their lists that would match.

Swimming pool, sandcastle water world, theme parks, arcades (2p machine fun!) badminton (sport but easy so loads of fun), park - feed ducks, go-kart racing, chips ok seafront, pottery class sessions, meals out, get pre teens to make meal in ;), castles, roller disco, rollerblade on your street, barbecue garden sessions, water pistol/nerf gun fights (for big kids too!), ice skating, cinema.

We have a baby and teens so a little harder to co-ordinate activities 🙃😅

Cinema, Miniature golf, Escape room?

If you're in the midlands how about Rutland Water. They have a farm and man made beach, they also have archery, water sports, cycling. You could do a bit of what each like, divide and conquer or see if there are any classes your son could be joined up to do while you and your daughter enjoy a hot chocolate on the beach.

Or... allow the boredom to happen! It’s meant to be good for them..

Howmanysleepsnow · 21/02/2023 20:41

Bowling, cinema, crazy golf, zoo, ice skating, beach walk, castles, pottery, den making in woods,

Beachdreams40 · 22/02/2023 10:57

I'll have a look at that Rutland water.
We are a min 2 hour drive from the coast
