16 year olds unaccompanied camping

Can anyone recommend a UK campsite that allows a group of 15 and 16 year olds to camp this Summer please? I thought I saved a post from last year recommending a site in Norfolk that had dates specifically bookable for this age group but can't find it now!

We will be close by! Thank you.

It's not the Norfolk one but one of my DCs and friends camped here after GCSEs. The site was fine about them being 15/16 but the booking had to be done by a parent and a contact number provided.

It obviously wasn't very successful as they now won't accept under 21s without parental supervision !!

Can't help with a site, but a word of warning....we used to go unaccompanied camping that age (lived rurally so camping on land that parents owned but essentially miles from any adult) and it was honestly just an excuse for unsupervised naughtiness.

I'd question the motives in any mixed group of teenagers camping Grin

Try Campsites attached to and run by the YHA.

It was successful - the site owner even wrote to the parent who booked to say so!

Well something must have gone wrong!!

As someone that was married with children by 21 it did make me laugh that I'd need to bring my parents.

@Ducksurprise over 21 does seem a bit OTT! DC did say there were a couple of other groups under 18 there... but at least one didn't last the night as it was stormy and they didn't like the rain/wind.

No where near Norfolk, but they allow groups of under 18s here: www.petruthpaddocks.co.uk/groups-start-here/#/

It is a shame. Sounds like yours had a bit of an adventure, glad they stuck it out, its nice when they get a chance to do something like that.

Thanks all! Sorry for the delay missed these responses. I will look at the links.

Bumping this thread as my 16 yr old DS has just announced they would love to go camping for 1 or 2 nights post GCSES. They have done DofE silver and all pretty sensible (as far as this age go!) looking for something in Surrey hills or Dorset/New forest if anyone has any ideas.

horseymum · 08/06/2023 18:30

I just went wild camping in the lake District with friends at about 15. Stayed away three days/ two nights, walked Helvellyn. No adults, no Mobil phones. Managed our navigation and food. Probably not allowed to do that now!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 08/06/2023 18:34

They would LOVE to wild camp but have decided they want to test the water with a campsite first. The Cheddar one listed up thread looks great but no where near a train station.

I used to go to Brockenhurst as a student but I think a Uni couple is more accepted than young 5 lads. (With good reason I expect!)

This site is in Yorkshire Dales and says groups of all ages welcome. No noise restrictions, no lights out, allows campfires. The facilities are just festival style compost toilets and running water so it's as close to wild camping as I think you can get while still being on a campsite. Lots of wildlife and is close to the aysgarth falls too. It also says the trees are ideal for hanging hammocks.
