Food & snacks

Im a step mum to a 15yr old, he lives full time with us, me & his father. I’ve been with his father for over 2yrs now, but we don’t see eye to eye on a few things.
I was bought up to ask if I wanted anything from the snack cupboard, I couldn’t just take what I wanted, when I wanted. We buy all sorts of goodies for each other making sure that we all have something each but if I don’t eat mine straight away they are always gone. I started to hide my things as I was fed up going to an empty cupboard when I fancied eating my things, that didn’t go down well. I was told by my partner to just tell my step son not to eat everything, that also didn’t go down well & I’m now told it’s life just put up with it as he has to put up with my elderly dog (eyes rolled).
So, am I being unreasonable & should I put up with it???

My DDs will eat everything, so I Chuck my stuff at the back of the baking cupboard. They seem to leave it alone as they know the snacks in there are mine/DHs.

My 14yr old will clear us out so I hide extra bits. I always encourage cereal or toast if he's hungry he eats those by the bucket load also.

It's not a step parent issue it's a teenage thing, hide your stuff don't even mention it to your partner there is nothing more annoying than looking forward to a treat only to find some greedy git has had it.

I can understand making a five year old ask for a snack but I really don't think it's reasonable for a teenager. Especially if they are hungry 24/7 like mine are.

The other PPs are right that the only way to deal with this to hide your own snacks! Anything in the regular snack cupboard is fair game, and if it ever lasts longer than a day, I salute you!

Meh, mine (only 2 at home now but 5 at be point) have a box or drawer assigned and a reasonable amount of snacks/treats are assigned per person. There's also a drawer in the freezer of shared snacks that is a free for all. Otherwise anything in the fridge or cupboard outside planned meals is a free for all.
OP maybe just make specific stuff available to save the stuff you really want ??
