14/15 year olds in my dd's year are now congregating in parks/in liberal parents houses and drinking/vaping/starting to become sexually active. Nothing new about this - although it does seem worse now that it is my child's peers doing it.

My dd is not interested in the above (thank goodness) but I'm struggling to suggest exciting things that she can do with friends that aren't expensive or involve drinking/vaping on Fri/Sat nights.

Is she the only one in her friendship group not wanting to do this?

my 14/15 year old doesn’t do this and none of his friends or peers do? She’s in a crowd that I would be concerned about. Very concerned. 14 is young to be drinking baking and sexually active by any measure

Noooooooo, not her friends. The so called 'cool' kids are doing it.

I'm just trying to think of things to suggest that she could do with her friends that don't cost a lot of money or are over in an hour or so.

So she has her own friendship group and none of them are doing this?

in that case, I would just make clear you have an open house if she wants friends to come by or stay over

but not much else on a Friday evening other than cinema or sleepover at that age.

Cinema, bowling, ice skating, hanging out at each other’s houses

Ursula82 · 21/01/2023 17:01

What does your DD want to do? Is she in contact with her friends over the weekend?

Ursula82 · 21/01/2023 17:03

If her friends in same boat, then she’s not missing out on anything?

Just make clear open house to her friends and that you’re happy to drive to places

What we all did at that age - watch films, eat snacks, do each others hair and nails, play video games....

Maybe get her on a 2000s teen movies weekend

I know they have had huge cut backs but is there a youth club anywhere near you

Cinema, bowling and ice skating are all expensive.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions.

My 14yo just finished a very long very loud very giggly FaceTime or WhatsApp chat with another girl. Or two I'm not sure. Like being out but happily not!

Good old girls movie nights & sleepovers. Mocktail making. Cooking their own dinner etc
