What to do with a 14 year old for NYE

I've told my DS 14 he can have a few friends over for a sleepover on NYE, I'd order pizza and get some fireworks which is what I did last year which he enjoyed.

I've offered the same this year , but he's less keen and has asked to do something with me - which I'm very happy to do, but don't know what.

I thought perhaps looking at hotels where there's dinner and music although not sure if this would be enjoyable for him or a bit weird.

Running out of time now so if I'm going to book something I need a do it soon.

Please give me some ideas and suggestions.

Favourite party foods/buffet (or takeaway), a brilliant movie he hasn't seen before, board games, teach him to play cards (for poker chips/money), snacks, music. Toast in the new year. Come up with some New Years resolutions.

Fireworks at home are naff unless you spend a fortune for something big, then they are unsafe and you piss off every pet owning neighbour for miles.

Is there anything he has in mind that he would like to do?

It's nice that he wants to spend NYE with you! I would have thought a dinner/dance thing would be a bit weird, but maybe a nice meal somewhere cool, or as pp said favourite food and a film at home. Or theatre / cinema maybe?

Why not invite his mates to spend it with him

lol at a hotel dinner dance. Are you mad?!

warofthemonstertrucks · 28/12/2022 22:06

I'm taking dd out for a posh (ish) dinner then back to ours to watch whatever count down type thing is on the telly

DannydeVitooo · 28/12/2022 22:06

Oh he wants to be with you. Go to London?

SLS500 · 29/12/2022 05:19

Thanks for your suggestions. I think it might be dinner, cinema and home for the countdown.

I think he'd probably like to go into London but I hate the thought of getting the train back late ... unless I can find a hotel. That might be an idea too

It is lovely your son wants to spend time with you. I hope you have a great time!

Is there any type of magic show or performance art that he would enjoy?

glittermoomoo · 29/12/2022 06:06

Takeaway and watch the Countdown on the tv

I take mine out to somewhere we can overlook the city and watch everyone else's fireworks - last year to a lookout point on a hill - it was packed, really good atmosphere, everyone good natured getting parked and then getting away again.

We're thinking we'll head down to a beach this year - I have to do some hurried research to see where might be a good spot!
