Hi , I am clueless about the contraceptive pill
My dd is 16.5 and suffers horrendous pain with her periods she has been to the Dr and she prescribed Mefenamic capsules
these don’t help atall so now my dd wants to go on the pill to help with the pain
Has anyone else’s dd been on the pill for pain ? How does it work ? Would she still get a period ?

I know you posted this a while ago, but I've only just seen it. My 14 year old DD had horrendous trouble with her periods. Irregular, very heavy and painful, and she'd miss three or so days of school every time it came. Took her to the GP and we initially tried mefenamic acid with no success, so the GP agreed to her trying the pill. GP thought that it would help settle things down.

She started it about 10 months ago and hasn't missed a day of school for her period since. She has her period every month (7 day break), but now it's predictable rather than irregular, much lighter (and so more manageable at school), and although she does still get some pain, it's easier to deal with with either the mefenamic acid or ibuprofen. We'll probably leave her on it a year or so and then maybe try without, to see if things have settled down.

Please encourage your DD to try the pill. The number of girls who are left to deal with debilitating period pain is shocking.

Thr pill is likely to make her period (actually a withdrawal bleed) shorter, less heavy, less painful and regular. She could also discuss running packs together with her GP, so she’d have fewer periods.

There can be side effects (although lots of people don’t have any, I never did). But the joy of the pill is that, if she feels it doesn’t suit her, she can just stop taking it, no biggie.

Yes my daughter did at 15 and it worked great, she's still on it now at 23. I went on it too at 15 for the same reason, period pain is awful. Hope it works for your daughter.
