Hi, I'm trying to help my 15 year old niece find a Saturday job. Can anyone give me any suggestions please ?
She lives in Reading, Berkshire. She is very tall, willowy and blonde so waitressing was my first thought.

She wants to be a sports therapist.

my list so far :

  1. Garden Centres
  2. Cafes
  3. Sports centre

Haven't got very far have I ...

Bit confused as to why what she looks like is in any way important ?

(I was a boots No 7 counter girl)

Shop work - a small boots is fab. Both my sisters did this, and they train you to become a healthcare assistant. This got them through uni with holidays/sat jobs.

Agree about looks comment, you don't see short, fat, brunette waitresses do you?

I didn't mean anything detrimental about non-tall willowy people - all I meant was that some outlets (in my experience) can be a bit bias about looks.
Rubbish choice of words ...... What I should have said was she was smart, clean and presentable.

I was turned down by Woolworths for a Saturday job when I was about the same age because my handwriting was too small and they said that was a sign of an introvert and they wouldn't be offering me a job. Also, they told me to get my hair cut !

I'm not sure there's much choice for people of that age (ie limited time, no qualifications etc etc), they just have to take what's going whether it be mcdonalds or waitressing.

Working in a sports centre would look good on her cv but would probably not be very glam (cleaning the loos etc) unless she has any qualifications.

Is she a reasonable swimmer? A lot of the youngsters I know have jobs as lifeguards at the local pool, which might go down well for the sports therapist career choice. She would have to wait until she was 16 to take her lifeguard qualification (can usually do this in a weeks intensive course) but once qualified there's usually plenty of jobs available and more in holiday times too often.
