Can someone please answer me this question? I am really stuck.
There are 2 drama groups in a school.
In one there are 36 boys and 48 girls.
in the other group, 3/7 of the students are boys and the rest are girls.
Ann says "the ratio of the number of boys is the same of the number of boys to the number of girls is the same for both groups."
Is Ann correct?
You must show you working.

Thanks

Correct because in group 1 - 36/84 are boys and if you simplify the fraction by dividing top and bottom by 12 you get 3/7 the ie same proportion.

No. Because I. The first group 3/4 is the ratio. Or have I got completely confused? 😕

Ignore me. Going mad and forgot to add the numbers together 😂 @Drywhitefruitycidergin was right.

3:4 is the ratio in both groups. For every 3 boys, there are 4 girls.

This is the same as saying 3/7 (3 out of every 7) of the students are boys.

I always lay out ration questions as a table:

(Group)....Boys..+....Girls....=....Total
1.................36...........48.............84
1................. 3.............4...............7...........(divide by 12)
2...................3.............4.(7-3)......7

Honestly OP, assuming you are trying to do basic GCSE level, the table layout makes ratio questions nice and straightforward.
it also works quite well often for percentage questions.

Realised as soon as I posted it. Did you see my post underneath correcting myself? If you saw it and decided to point out my mistake anyway then that says an awful lot about you as a person. 😗

@Ohhelpicantthinkofaname We cross posted. I did not see your correction.

B : G
36:48
= 3:4
Equivalent ratios.
3:4 implies 3/7 boys and 4/7 girls
