Advice needed - DD struggling after surgery

I'd like some advice from anyone who can help please. My DD had surgery last July when she was 15 to remove a massive tumour from her ovary. It was a Terratoma, which are rare but was non cancerous. Thank goodness. She had to have her left ovary removed but she still has her right ovary which is in good nick. However. A year on and after she broke up with her boyfriend of two years, which was an ordeal in itself as she refused to eat or drink for nearly a week, it turns out that she has been struggling mentally with the surgery she had. I had no idea as we are usually very open with these things esp health matters. She has asked for my help to get some kind of counselling but I'm not sure where to turn to. I k is that she struggles with anxiety aswell which she has help from her secondary school but now she is at college and doesn't want to use their services there.

Poor kid. What a lot to go through. Even the word teratoma is scary, I'm not surprised she's struggling.

Why is she not keen to access help through student support services?

I would encourage her to speak to her GP. A CAMHS referral will be useful.

I hope she feels better soon.

We went to our GP recently to ask for help with DD's anxiety. She told us about a local charity that you can self refer to. She's already had her assessment and is in the waiting list for counselling. The wait list is about 6 weeks.

If you have Employee Assist at work might ge worth enquiring if she's eligible for counselling through them.

How is your daughter today OP? Have you managed to access any help for her?

Hey. Sorry still figuring out how to use the mums net app. She is ok ish. I spoke to a paramedic
Last night after she had another episode which was bad. He pointed me in the direction of an organisation for counselling. It's difficult as she is in that weird age group where she isn't a child but isn't an adult neither. So I have found there are no clear paths to help
I am going to look into my works assistance however I'm due to switch company next week so will prob have to wait.
It's really drained me as a parent aswell though. It's awful when you can't physically do anything to help them.
I appreciate the replies to the thread so far enough. So thank you x

CAMHS are specifically for your daughter's age group though. I'm surprised the paramedic didn't suggest you seek a referral to them.

My own DD works for CAMHS and her clients are aged between 7 - 19, with varying mental health needs.

Good luck.
