Parental controls for 16 year old?

Hi

Just wanted to get an idea of what is standard for a 16 year old, as I know I have a tendency be over-protective.

I'm about to get my 16 year old a new laptop. In the past they have had some parental controls on tech - but now aged 16 have said they want to have a laptop without parental controls so they feel more independent.

Don't want to baby them but also don't want to be irresponsible. I wondered what others do? Thanks

I'd be having a very frank conversation about porn, if I were you.

We are in Scotland. 16 is an adult. I had no parental controls on any of ds's devices at 16.

We obviously have had all the appropriate conversations as he has grown up, he is aware of my values and I have tried to instill them into him. At some point you need to let them make their own decisions and this was one I was comfortable letting go when ds was 16. Every parent and child/young adult is different.

I was a parent living in my own home at 16.

No I do not have any parental controls on my 16 year olds devices, its ridiculous.

At 16???

Our home Internet has parent controls, as in all extreme websites are blocked. I pay for the Internet and have younger children accessing it (actually thats irrelevant I will keep the controls when they are grown)
I am not naive and despite conversations about porn I expect they have accessed it, however I won't be facilitating it.

We haven’t used any parental controls on devices by that age. I can’t see what you’re really achieving at this point?

way too overprotective, he'll be an adult in less than 2 years
