16yo and contraception

So I was hoping to have a bit longer before having to worry about this but dd has told me she had sex last night at a party.

She says they used condoms and it was completely consensual and I'm glad she's been able to tell me.

Anyway I will now be encouraging her to make an appointment with the nurse to discuss contraception.

What contraceptions have your dds used and is there anything I should be asking, thinking about?

Her main options are the mini pill if no migraines with auras, the pop or shot/ implant. I am sure the nurse will discuss all options with her 🙂

The mini pill is the POP
She can have mini pill, combined pill, implant. Dont think the depo injection is advised for that age group due to effects on bone density

I had the depo injection at 17 and I was on it for about 10 years. It was great for me, no periods and it was every 8 or 12 weeks. I knew I might forget to take the pill whereas I knew I wouldn't forget to have my shot.

Mine is on the mini pill. Partly because of hormonal mood swings and partly as contraception. She hasn't really had any side effects so far, but the downside is that she does have to remember to take it every day.

My DD had an implant at 16. I was not enthusiastic (I lost my virginity to my husband to be, aged 21, and have never had a ONS or anything resembling it), but given the situation, and given her general flakiness, she couldn't be trusted to take the Pill reliably. I am also unkeen on the Pill because I tried the mini-Pill when I was married, and it made me feel suicidal. I tried a different brand, to the same effect.

The implant is absolutely not a perfect solution (the best solution is not to have random sex), but it does at least give a reasonable guarantee against pregnancy. Which is a start, because the very last thing my DD needs is an unplanned pregnancy.
