Underage drinking

My Ds age 16 was brought home drunk by his friends dad. They’d been bought a bottle of vodka by a local woman who has her own alcohol problems! She asks them all the time if they want her to buy any alcohol for them in the local shop. I spoke to our local neighbourhood police officer & told him what happened & also told him the name of the woman who is well know to the police. 2 days later I have received a letter from child services saying they received a report from the police about an incident involving my son! When I spoke to the police officer he was very nice & said we’ve all been there at that age & that id done the right thing, he didn’t mention that he was going to make a report to child services though! I’m really annoyed about it as I thought I was being a responsible parent ☹️

Yeah they should have told you they were making a referral and why. Sounds like it may be on the grounds of contextualised safeguarding- risks to children from their community / neighbourhood, as opposed to risks from within home. If there is no history of concerns / no other concerns they may shut it down without contacting you. They may call for a chat just in case you are worried about your son and feel he needs help.

Thank you, yes it did say in the letter that they’d decided there were no safeguarding issues, so no further action but it would be kept on file. I was just so shocked when I got the letter 😕
