Creepy twitter trend

I've noticed this trend on twitter and facebook of people demanding mandatory vasectomies for boys at puberty to protect girls from teen pregnancy. What do you think of this? I find it disturbing that parents are advocating this.

Ha ha as if this would ever happen. Who’s going to do them, the broken NHS? 😆
It’s probably not a bad idea though, there are far too many humans on this planet.

No one's really advocating this, imagine getting past the boys mum's to do this, twitter's just a stupid noise void.

Disgusting thing to say IMO.

SingingSands · 29/08/2022 23:08

Agree with @MarillaCuthbertshair (great username btw!)

Twitter is not real life. It is mostly mad people shouting into a biscuit tin.

I've seen it as a response to Roe v Wade. People recognise the unreasonable nature of suggesting a (reversible) medical procedure for males that would prevent unplanned pregnancies. But at the same time people expect women and girls to take hormonal contraception for years and force them to carry and babies and raise children they do not want.

The reality is more barbaric than the reversible vasectomy suggestion.

I hope that there are more options available to my son when he is older. Abstinence or condoms rely on clear headed thought in a heated moment. If he could take a daily pill or have a regular injection like women do then that would be better.

As @glamourousindierockandroll says, it's a response to the pressure and responsibility piled on women and girls for reproductive management. Don't worry, it's a thought experiment, no one is coming after any boy's bits.

Thanks SingingSands!
This is an old arguement and the reality of women's contraception usually comes down to women ultimately want to take responsibility for it - I don't want my daughter trusting a guy who says he's on the pill but nor do I want my son to have unnecessary surgery. I also don't want to live in a world of enforced surgery at all.
