15 yr old Summer school ideas (2023)

My 14,DD is looking forward to a week at a London drama school in a few weeks (West End Stage) as loved it last year but at £1200 for the week is a huge chunk from our holiday budget.

She had a tricky spell earlier this year where we realised school holidays & the lack of structure we're sending her into a malaise so promised to take her away or keep her as busy as possible for summer.

I'd like if possible to find out what other things are available for her (& possibly her 19 year old sister who is long term sick so doesn't get out much).

Someone mentioned PGL which could work.

My youngest is very academic and drama was always her extra curricular hobby but also enjoys languages, history and outdoorsy stuff.

We are in the Midlands.

Thanks

Have you heard of geocaching? Basically a sort of treasure hunt only you don't keep the treasure!
Great for getting you out and about, they are everywhere. It's a low cost hobby which has a lot of variety so suitable for all sorts of people. Some challenging puzzle-type caches, 'earth caches' as well as the typical ones. It's quite addictive...

Since you mention she likes singing, I did a Junior Choral Course when I was her age (19 now so same age as your older daughter). Unfortunately JCC only goes up to age 15 but they do have separate courses for 15+. It was great fun and I made lots of friends. It’s expensive but definitely cheaper than the West End one you mentioned.

My DD also going to WES in August - first time for us - any advice re how it goes ??
thanks

Thanks for suggestions.

WES is great. We stayed with friends whose kids were also attending last year but this year she'll stay in the WES accommodation & I'll work while she's away.

They have a fantastic time and make great friends.

I used to do similar drama and music camps as a young teen but feels like there's not many on offer these days.

The choral singing one looks excellent!

There are loads of other MT/drama camps which are cheaper than WES - Tring Park is very good, GSA has accommodation for one of the weeks and there are bound to be some close enough to go daily from where you live. If you go down the PGL route I would wait until really close to the time and book at 50% off - they always have some with that kind of discount a few weeks before.

Thanks for the PGL intel @TheTeenageYears this is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to find out by posting. Plus the other drama classes/camps too.

I just don't know what to search terms to use or when to search. Maybe next Easter...
