A Levels and Part Time Jobs

My DD is finishing her 1st year of A levels and looking a job in the summer. She doesn't want to work during term time as she needs to get high grades to get into Law next year so wants to focus on this. However, all the jobs she's applied for want people who can also commit to weekends during term times so she's a bit stuck. All her friends have jobs and we can't afford to subsidise her social life so she's looking at a miserable summer if she doesn't find a job. I feel bad for her but don't know what else to suggest.

I also work from home most of the time so the thought of a sulky bored teenager all through the holidays fills me with dread :(

Try clarks, they take on students to work the holidays, just to help get through through half term school shoe influx

Do they need to know she doesn’t plan to work weekends? Can’t she get a job for summer then worry about next term when it comes?

She could just pretend to be keen to continue on a part- time basis then just leave at the end of the summer.

Having said that, law firms (universities don't care) may be quite impressed at someone holding down part time work consistently whilst studying as it shows drive and organisation.
I'm at dental school and lots of people work part-time.

If she doesn't want to continue into term time she doesn't have to tell them that, she could just work the summer and decide what she wants to do once the time comes and hand her notice in or whatever. Having said that, there are a few places (Nando's for one I think?) which employ students and keep them on the books for when they're back home at Easter/Christmas/summertime with no expectation to work in the term time. Worth asking anywhere she applies about their flexibility!

Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that!! With the amount of trouble you hear young people having with employers taking advantage of them and treating them poorly I’d be advising her just to look out for number one and worry about what suits her.

There may be some summer holiday camps for kids that will hire 16 year olds?
