How do you deal with smashed smartphones?

My youngest took a laissez faire attitude to protective phone case/screen protection and now is distraught that her fairly new iPhone life support device is not working due to a broken screen.

I'm the past I've reluctantly forked out for second hand replacements for her and her older siblings but now have my own tight budgets and don't wish to spend on repairs or replacements.

Only last week I had the chat about how she needs to earn & save money ahead of needing it for unforeseen things or treats (she mows my mum's tiny lawn for a fat fee and it is instantly spent on sweets and fizzy drinks on her walk to school).

The local phone repair guy charges £95 which seems steep. I'll phone some others.

I always have insurance on my son's phone and don't give them a device until you have fitted a screen protector and case

DS has just smashed his. He is distraught and blamed himself (it was an accident). However as we were due to replace it he has now got a cheaper replacement than he would have got and will be sacrificing half his pocket money for the foreseeable.

I insist on case and screen protector on my kids phones. If they damage them, I've a couple of old backup ones. They know they will not get replaced until the contract is up.

Mine aren't allowed their phones if they haven't got the protective cover and screen protector on. Me either tbf - I am very clumsy!

DS took his off the other day (inside) and was told if he smashed it there was an old 5 in the drawer and no option of a new phone
He put it back on sharpish

Worth trying a couple of other shops but £95 seems about right and it's a hard lesson but hopefully paying for it out of her lawn money will mean your Dd is more careful in future
