Post GCSE celebrations

I'm thinking of doing something at the end of each week to celebrate the end of that weeks GCSEs.

Good idea or not? If so what little things would you do to celebrate each week?

Thanks

Well, takeaways always go down well here. Or a DVD with popcorn.

For DD1 I bought her a small gift for after every exam (fewer exams in those days) only costing £2-£3, like smelly highlighter, lipsalve etc. 6 years younger DD2 also got a gift for being a helpful sister and coping with DD1 getting all the focus (I did a lot of 1-1 revision).

(DD2 would have done GCSEs last year but was ill for y11 anyway so it didn't come up.)

After English yesterday I took dd for lunch and she had a few friends around Saturday so got to relax before xmas started.

Takeaway here - he chooses which!

DS got a free rein on choice of drinks and snacks for after school on exam days. Its his birthday tomorrow and maths paper 1 which is a bit rubbish for him, so his choice of takeaway for tea as he doesn't want to go out

Well, if you are relaxing in prep for Christmas already...🌲

My ds has basically said in the nicest possible way to leave him alone, so we're essentially pretending they're not happening, asking very careful questions and tiptoeing around the snarling beast! Might offer him a takeaway on Saturday night though...and we made pancakes on Tuesday morning before the first one.

Over invested? This is just another step. At 16 it’s up to them really, what do we know.

Just be pleased they got through the day and say we’ll done.Do something nice when it’s all over.

For many many DC, especially less academic, or those prone to over worrying this isn't 'just another step', it is a mountain range that can seem unsurmountable. I don't think it is at all unreasonable for parents to be 'invested', and to be looking at how they can help make the marathon journey more survivable for their offspring.

Personally I'm doing whatever it takes to help my still unwell y12 sit her first full GCSE exams - all 2 of them.

All the best to your DC.

We have one doing As and one doing GCSEs. The one doing As wants no attention or fuss at all. The one doing GCSEs wants hugs, to shout at me, rage, be tested, ask questions, be made a fuss of.

So I’m led by them and their needs.

GCSE one is getting a little edible or shower/skincare type treat after every exam! She really appreciates it.

The A level one would laugh in my face if I did that for him 😂

mamaduckbone · 22/05/2022 22:49

@SFisnotsimple your A-level one is like my GCSE one...I'm barely even allowed to wish him luck or ask how it went (but also need to be on hand to help with English language revision at a moment's notice...and buy a LOT of raspberries, randomly)

cheninblanc · 23/05/2022 15:43

Just making a general fuss here, breakfast stuff in I wouldn't normally buy. Let off chores for a weeks. After exams we'll probably have a nice meal and celebrate then
