Got my DS17 in tears here. He very stupidly shared some photos to a girl (he thought) on Instagram and now she's followed all his followers and sending them the photos one by one. She asking for £400. He's beside himself. We're on the phone to the police.

He's now blocked the account. Anyone got any advice? His mental health is a bit shaky and he was just started to feel better after Covid angst.

Met on Yubo. Then followed her on Instagram and she followed him back accessing all his followers. He shared the photos on WhatsApp. She then threatened to send them to his followers. I’ve got the WhatsApp number plus her insta account name. Have reported her to Instagram.

You're still thinking she's a she? I would have guessed that she will turn out to be an adult man no?

Yes probably. It doesn’t really matter either way. Thanks for the support 🙄

Online evil behaviour not the sole preserve of men…a girl at dds school done something vile online to a young male teacher

OP look up my thread from early April this year. We also contacted the police as our SEN 19 year old daughter was targeted via TikTok. Her blackmailer used a vpn. He was not messaging from America. Police quickly established he was in Nigeria. Presume a he, we don’t know for sure but I’ll use he for ease of reading.

Instagram took our daughter’s account down very quickly. Dd and I are very involved in a specific niche sport. I was able to ask my followers who also followers her to report to Instagram. With that volume, they took the account down quickly.

These scammers use stolen photographs, use stolen Instagram accounts. They don’t care whether they get money or not they will still post to be malicious . They are also scamming multiple people and don’t keep track of who sent what. So they will threaten to publish images they may not even have.. easy to tell if you are dealing with a serial scammer or an individual targeting just one person. Do they use your child’s name or more likely with a serial scammer who they always address your child as Babe, my love i.e. something generic ?

dd’s mental health has suffered a lot. She has lost loads of weight and some days can’t leave the house. Feel free to PM and don’t be surprised if a researcher contacts you asking to do a survey, I have been contacted- think she is genuine and not a Daily Fail reporter but I want more proof.

@Mumof22023

You'd be better off starting your own thread as this is a zombie thread.
Hope you manage to sort things out

Op you can contact the Internet Watch Foundation helpline. They are the UK organization with responsibility for removing unlawful images from the internet

This is the behaviour of criminal gangs - mostly men in SE Asia or West Africa (Nigeria and Kenya are currently the worst areas). It is very unlikely to be the behaviour of one woman. It is likely they will ask for more and more money.

There have been a LOT of suicides due to this. I would suggest he contacts everyone on instagram saying he has been targeted in a scam and then remove and block all his current followers. He can then set up a new locked account and keep it private.
He is learning a very harsh and terrifying lesson. By telling all his followers - I would post a message to everyone then remove and block - he can be clear that he is protecting them from their details being contacted by a criminal gang.
This is very scary for him OP, these gangs are relentless and terrifying. There can be up to 30different people posing as one woman or man and they are relentless and very experienced. They will have used deep fake or AI porn/digitally altered porn to convince him this is a real woman. I am sorry.

The above is for @Mumof22023

I'd go with @gomble12 's suggestion and pre-empt the blackmailer. Put out an alert to all your ds' contacts that this user is a blackmailer, that the matter is in the hands of the police and that they should block the account to prevent being drawn into a child pornography investigation and to avoid becoming a victim themselves.
