I feel like it's something they've just put up there to look good for pr

Usually the guaranteed interview schemes they mean a guaranteed interview as long as you meet a minimum score. I am not familiar with the tesco scheme but do know about the civil service equivalent.

If say you need to score a minimum of 10 to get an interview and they are only going to interview the top 10 applicates (say all of those score in excess of 20), then anyone with a disability will be interviewed as long as they meet the minimum (ie score at least 10) even if they were not one of the highest scoring.

Sound like your son isn't meeting the minimum score requirement and, unfortunately isn't qualifying for the guaranteed interview.

What do you mean score? They don't even ask what disability his got. Just if his disabled (he has (asd and dyspraxia) he then gets asked to complete an online questionnaire. Which he completes then gets an email saying he passed the test

I think they just use it so they can sift out everyone with disabilities

DS still has to meet the requirements of the job, the questionnaire is to make sure they recruit people who can (e.g) count and read at an appropriate level etc. It would be bonkers to not check for this sort of thing if it's needed to successfully carry out the role. The type of disability isn't relevant.

What sort of questions are in the questionnaire?

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/04/2022 14:24

So what happens after the email saying be passed the test?
@3cats4poniesandababy has the same understanding as me about how the scheme works. She’s using a very generic example of ‘score’ but every job will have a minimum criteria to pass to the next stage.
It sounds like your DS is not meeting the minimum requirements from what ever is asked in the questionnaire.
I very much doubt they simply decline every disability without even knowing what it is!

Does the email actually say pass or just confirming he completed the test? I applied for a head office role at tesco once and although progressed to interview I never heard if I passed or failed the test.
Is he getting emails saying he has been unsuccessful for the role as often tesco can take a long time to call for interviews based upon when I applied for a head office position. Also you haven't indicated if a cv type form has also been submitted? Although called guaranteed interview disabled applicants are still compared to criteria.

This website explains the schemes quite well.

If you are unsure why he isn't getting through maybe contact tescooand ask for feedback or fill in the application the same without putting disabled if you believe tesco are trying to sift out disabled applications.

I wish your son well on his job hunt. If he is struggling with tesco I know the Co-Op has a very good inusive recruitment policy.

Tesco do seem to genuinely employ quite a few people with disabilities, so I don't think it can be to sift them out.

My friend's DS with dyspraxia and a speech problem works for them and we have two men attending local store who've been there for years.

Lucyskydreams · 21/04/2022 15:33

It specifically says he's passed it.
