Car insurance for newly passed

My DS has just passed his test. He doesn't need his own car at the moment and could be off to Uni in September anyway so wondering what the options are for say 6 months insurance on my car? I have used Marmalade for learners insurance and they have a couple of options but have I missed anything obvious. Thanks

adding him as a named driver?

I phoned my insurance company but they won't put him on!! Assume because he's newly passed

Go through a comparison site like Compare the Market, put all your details in, add him as named driver and see what they all quote for the year.

I have tried that but what would happen with my current insurance? It's not due for renewal till Nov so would I have to cancel that then retake new insurance with another company for me and him as named driver? I thought getting the test passed was the tricky bit 😂

you usually pay a cancellation fee of about £30 and get a pro rata refund if you paid in full. for temporary cover to drive your car without changing your own policy a company like cuvva would be wortha try but this could work out a lot more expensive than switching your insurance and adding him

Marmalade insurance, designed for learners and new drivers, driving parents car. Its a policy for the young driver so they earn their own no claims. Also any claims will not affect your own insurance. I've not used them but a friend has.
