So I am a mum of 2 girls, my oldest has suffered with mental health problems, depression, anxiety and self harm for over a year now and I found that while accessing help for her was relatively easy and there is a lot of support out there for teenagers, as a parent I was left without support! I just wanted a chat, to talk to someone who understood what I was going through and wanted easy accessible information all in the same place and I couldn’t find that anywhere!
so I have started a support group on Facebook for parents in the UK with teenagers suffering with their mental health, may that be depression, anxiety, ASD, self harm etc
its a safe space to offer each other support and for discussion and the group will be moderated to ensure it stays that way!
Please feel free to join!

Hello @ArseInTheCoOpWindow and @MediocreOne . The exam pressure is hideous at the moment...

Bluelightbaby · 22/05/2022 17:29

My eldest DD (now 17) attempted to hang herself when she was 15. She’s been on antidepressants ever since

my youngest DD 14 has attempted suicide twice (one OD and once drinking bleach) she self harms most days but isn’t depressed. She’s awaiting assessment for adhd and autism

both my daughters have had an amazing childhood. Horses kept at home, me as a stay at home mum for most their life. Lots of holidays.

I can only put it down to genetics as me, my brothers abs my mum all suffer from suicidal tendencies and anxiety

due to DV I left my marriage but both DD live with my ex. I only have contact with my youngest DD. It’s heart breaking :(

I work for the emergency frontline ambulance service and we go to sooooo many kids that feel suicidal or have sadly succeeded :(

Just read an article yesterday about how the numbers of children with mental health issues is off the scale.

My GP said she’d seen so so many. More than ever before in her entire period as a GP.

Hi @waterwall22 exam pressure doesn't help, also the added problem of trying to keep a calm house before exams, without DS14 having total meltdown.

Parenting young people doesn't come with a manual, and even if it did it would need rewriting after the last few years. I'm a nurse who has worked in mental health since 2007 and will be starting a group for parents next month to empower you to empower them through adolescence and beyond. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in finding out more
