ds is feeling rather pleased as he has lost a stone in just over a week(been poorly) not worried as he needed to. but was concerned when he said he wanted to get down to 9stone.
when he starts eating proper again i know he will put on a bit of weight. (hopefully he has broken the stuffing the face as only a teen can habit) 9 stone!! he would look like a stick.
just curious do other teens get these odd ideas.(dh has spoken to him so hopefully he is over it)

How old is he?
I know several boys who have severe anorexia, and I'm quite paranoid about it. It's a slippery slope.

But I can talk my 8 yr-old is as thin as a rake, but knows (and cares) how much he weighs!

Scramble · 28/12/2007 23:34

My ds 11 yrs has no idea what he weighs and little concern.

DD 8yrs has said some worrying things, we tend to blame the media and all that but think on the next time you are discussing weight watchers, fat grams, pounds lost and the next new great diet, they take it all in. Not aimed at anyone just a general observation. I used to ask MIL how she was getting on with her diet but I am very careful not too infront of DD now. DD was worried she wobble too much, we talked about her muscles and how they move about when not tensed, she is skinnyand def doe3sn't wobble .

I agree Scramble. Both dh and I are overweight, and currently doing WW. We really try to focus on eating healthily, and eating healthy family meals together: rather than demonising particular foods. We also try not to discuss dieting in front of the children. But ds2 has certainly picked up some funny ideas about weight/diet/foods along the way.

my 17 yr old nephew is a very slim lad but I was surprised when he spoke about needing to keep his weight down, not eating certain things. Boys seem to be almost as concerned about weight as girls

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 29/12/2007 11:55

my 15.5 yr old has the opposite problem and seems unaware
he is almost 6 foot and just over 8 stone
i try not to worry as it is all change at this age

roisin · 29/12/2007 11:59

PaulaYates - that is very, very skinny.
I would be worried tbh.
Are you sure he's eating properly?

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 29/12/2007 12:05

he eats ridiculous amounts of healthy stuff but he is a bit ibs...always has been - i am assuming he will fill out soon
his legs and arms look very thin but he is very healthy - rarely gets colds etc roisin

roisin · 29/12/2007 12:46

I would get up-to-date measurements, stick them in here then make an appointment with a GP.

I know teenage boys can get very skinny when they have a major growth spurt, but the figures you've given on here are very extreme IMO.

brimfull · 29/12/2007 12:52

paula-nearly 6ft and 8stone

my dd weighs 8 stone and she's 5'4

actually most of her friends are worryingly too careful about what they eat imo.

snorkle · 29/12/2007 13:52

Dd is also v. skinny and also v healthy too (5ft and 5st 5). I just checked her figures on roisins site (thans Roisin) and she's second centile and underweight . I think I will take her to the gp & see what he says, but it's hard to know what can be done - I worry about anorexia.

roisin · 29/12/2007 14:41

How old is she snorkle?

snorkle · 29/12/2007 14:50

she's 12 Roisin. Always been v. thin but is getting incresasingly fussy - I keep having to talk her out of becoming vegetarian. Ironically though, of all the family she's the one that never gets ill.
