Do you? How much? Need to do chores to earn it?

Giving him bits and bobs now and again and would like something more structured but not sure how much.

It depends what you want him to use it for. Is it to buy his own clothes or just for things like the cinema and food when out with friends?

Yes the latter.

At that age, we used to just give money when needed but going by various friends of ours, between £10-£20 a week seems to be average, depending on how often the kids go out and budget.

We still just give money when needed for our daughter as she’s only 13 but when our son started college at 16 we agreed an allowance for clothes, travel, lunch, socialising, phone etc.

We give our DD15 £50/month paid direct into her bank. This is hers to do so with as she wishes - she uses it to spend on cinema/Nando’s visits mostly but also to buy skin/hair care/makeup and the odd clothing item sometimes too.
Some months she may have several meet-ups due to lots of bdays at the same time and we contribute to these too sometimes and give her extra to pay for these as it’s not fair she misses out just because she has lots of friends bdays at the same time. She is good with money though and will save up for things herself and top up the shampoo for example if she’s at the shops with her own money. She bought me my hair curl cream without asking for instance as she knew I was needing some more (I did replace the money) but she wasn’t expecting it.

We’ve had a chat. He’s happy with £30 a month.
He doesn’t use any hair/beauty products so feel like this should be a good amount.
Thanks everyone.

We set ds up with a bank account with a debit card and a savings account. He has access to Internet banking on both accounts on his mobile and can also use apple pay. He gets notifications on his phone whenever he spends anything or if his balance is low.

He gets £100/month. That covers school lunches - he can get a meal for £2.15 a day, if he spends more it is up to him. He transfers money from his account to top up the school parent pay system to pay for his lunches. He pays Mobile phone and Spotify direct debts. He needs to make sure he keeps enough in his account for his direct debts.

If he wants cash he can go to ATM or transfer money to me and I'll give him the cash.

He puts into his savings account anything he has extra left over or any other cash he gets.

Started when he was 13 and he had done really well with it, watches his money carefully instead of just spending whatever we gave him.
