Orthodontic treatment (brackets keep coming off) – any orthodontists out there?

Hi

Our daughter is receiving orthodontic treatment, not on the NHS. She had her first brace fitted in early September and already she's had about six brackets come off. The first two were undoubtedly her fault but she has to my mind been very careful since with what she's been eating. To me it seems as if she can only eat soft foods (aka 'mush').

I did ask if some people are more susceptible to brackets coming off (she has a friend who seems to eat anything and everything without any issues). The orthodontist did agree that this was sometimes the case. But at the same time warning us that repeated reglueing of the brackets would come with additional cost.

When she had her second brace put on a fortnight ago, it took an hour to do as the brackets weren't 'sticking'. Apparently, DD produces loads of saliva which impacts on how well the glue works in securing the brackets. Within 24 hours (and only eating soft foods), one had popped off again which warranted another trip to the orthodontist to resecure it along with several of the others.

Another one has just popped off this morning while DD was eating her soft diet breakfast.

Is this normal for some young people?

For context, DD has a very small mouth, small teeth and clearly produces lots of saliva. I am wondering whether these three things combined create a perfect storm for issues?

My dd had braces for 2 years and only had 2 brackets that came loose in the time. She ate all sorts of foods and didn't limit to soft mushy stuff.

I'm beginning to think that the 'don't eat list' is a red herring with DD. I think the problem is that the way the braces are fitted means she can only do any chewing on two of her back teeth which presumably is putting a lot of pressure on them?

Thanks for replying @dementedpixie.
