So my dd started uni September..worrying about her because I feel she is not happy 😞 she is living in private rented student accommodation and girls she staying with are tbh dirty bit*hes..but I think there is more to why she is unhappy..doesn't help that she is over 400 miles away 😞..really don't know what to do..

I'm sorry you have had some horrible replies. The advice about booking a B & B and visiting her is good advice.

Unfortunately the flatmate situation is such a lottery. One of DD's flatmates stored raw mwat in plastic containers on their side. The blood dripped down on her food - she is vegetarian. The fridge was a complete health hazard.

If you post in the higher education section on mumsnet you will get some more supportive replies.

A mouldy cucumber does not equal a dirty bitch, that's a bit of an overreaction isn't it? Your DD confronting them probably didn't help either, tbh.

She needs to give it a bit of time, I'm sure she'll settle down in time OP, try not to worry.

I want to hear more about the rice cooker incident 🤣

stalkersaga · 19/10/2021 19:55

Sorry, but that is the pettiest of petty flatmate complaints. Stuff like that happens in shared fridges; you roll your eyes, wash your own food off and get the fuck over it. Part of studenthood is learning how to live with others and navigate domestic and interpersonal frictions. also students are disgusting

Would a poo in a rice cooker for all of half term not end up burning the house down?

SatsumaPumpkinFace · 19/10/2021 21:26

Yes, surely it would dehydrate something rotten 💩 🔥

FavouriteMug · 19/10/2021 22:23

So apparently the parents of one student gifted a Rice Cooker to all the flats in halls as a thank you gift - not sure why but nice gesture Smile

In our daughters flat, a male student thought that a decently sized poo in their rice cooker would be amusing, even more so if he switched it on.

That's all I know although he was expelled Confused

You sound a bit unhinged to be honest??!

Students will be students, it’s part of growing up.

SavoyCabbage · 19/10/2021 22:34

They are a load of 18 year olds living away from home for the very first time, house keeping is not going to be their main concern. Most students live this way. They have only been there a matter of weeks.

If (when) this happens to my dd I will be telling her that it's not the end of the world and that she should concentrate on getting to know as many people as possible, explore the new city she is in and get her work done.

No she doesn't Hmm

She sounds worried about her daughter.

@Geminigal66 can I suggest that you post in the higher education section on mumsnet instead. There you will find parents who have young people at university and who will understand a bit more.

Omg, dirty bitches, did u really just say that?? I really hope you and your daughter are ok, but what made you say that about her flat mates?
