My daughter currently has dla but it’s coming to a end soon so she will have to apply for pip what’s the paper work like she was told she needs to phone up pip and give them information about her self she has mental health issues and has bad anxiety on the phone I heard there was a test line for deaf people would she be able to use that instead. What’s the paper work like for pip and after you apply how long does it take to hear back and is it true Lots of people get turned down if my daughter got turned down is appealing easy or not worth it if she does get the benefit how long can she check it for is it means tested.

Appealing is definitely worth it.

Thank you

They write to you when it's time to apply. Your dd can nominate somebody to deal with them on get behalf, ds nominated me for his. It's a written form, no online option. I downloaded a prompt guide to help me full it in. We sent it off on 4th January and got the decision in July. I got a phone call in May or June asking for details about why ds can't use public transport but they didn't ask to speak to him. We got awarded high care and high mobility for 3 years. I was shocked as I had heard it's difficult to get pip.
DS is still in full time education at a special school. I sent in his medical reports and his ehcp as evidence.

Thank you , did you have to get a professional to sign it as with dla I had to get a doctor sign it , I will nominate my self for her Ik waiting to hear back and see if my daughter has been accepted for a EHCP .

No I didn't have to get anyone to sign it. Nobody signed his dla form either because I did that online.
I nominated his school teacher, psychologist and psychiatrist as people they could contact.

mummy182822828 · 13/10/2021 20:39

I was thinking about doing it online do they give you a deadline when you do it online , would I have to wait until a get a letter to apply online or can I just fill it out when she turns 16 next month.

You can't do pip online, it's a written form.

I meant I did the dla form online when I applied for that when he was little.

OldTinHat · 13/10/2021 20:47

You register on the phone with basic information, they then send you a form and a letter that says when you have to return it by. The form asks how the disability affects you. My MH nurse filled mine in with me last week. I've heard it takes about four months for a decision.

Fluffypastelslippers · 13/10/2021 20:52

You don't have to phone to get the forms there is a postal option, or you can call on her behalf.

Lougle · 13/10/2021 20:56

Did you not get a letter about 5 months ago, asking if you wanted to be her appointee? You can fill in a form stating that you want to be her appointee. They say that they will make an appointment to assess whether you should be an appointee, but for DD1 they simply wrote back and said that I'd been appointed. I guess if it's obvious that one will be needed (DD1 has LD) then they don't bother to come out.

The paperwork is not dissimilar to DLA, but it focuses more on function. You need to make it clear if she can physically do something but there is a mental barrier.

Athinginitself · 13/10/2021 20:59

They gave me the option of doing it online (it's new) but it wasn't easy to do online so I ended up getting a paper form in the end.

mummy182822828 · 13/10/2021 21:02

Ok that makes sense thank you

It's also taking a long time currently.. I sent the form back at the beginning of June and had a telephone assessment last week.

mummy182822828 · 13/10/2021 21:05

I didn't get a letter about me being her appointee they send a letter about who's bank she wants the money to go in and I did hers .

I've heard the waiting time isn't good.

@mummy182822828

I've heard the waiting time isn't good.
I'm not sure if it's different if you are moving from DLA, hopefully quicker for you!
Lougle · 13/10/2021 21:20

The waiting time shouldn't matter if you're moving across from DLA. As long as you stick to their deadlines then they keep paying DLA until the PIP claim is decided.

Graphista · 13/10/2021 22:31

I would advise not even attempting to do the application yourselves without support from an expert.

I always use my local welfare rights office in my council. They are very knowledgeable and supportive and keep me right.

I first claimed (then DLA as you say) years ago and foolishly thought I could manage myself - I was incredibly naive!

And it's even harder now and has always been harder to claim when it's for mh issues mainly.

I was given sort of special dispensation to do everything online due to my health limitations.

But yes it's usually a paper form you post away

I've learned the hard way to ALWAYS send it that it gets signed for/tracked too.

No claims it was "lost in the post" then

Good luck with it all

Just jumping on here as wanted info on this myself.

I understand that DLA continues to be paid while waiting on a decision for PIP. If PIP is refused, do you have to pay back the DLA paid in that time period?

DD has said if PIP is refused she won't appeal as it's too much mental stress so I'm worried about this

Are you sure that dla stops until pip make a decision as I thought dla stops when your 16 then wait for a letter from pip then full out but not getting payed until they get a decision.

Applying for PIP is a gruelling process, hopefully it will be easier if your DD already receives DLA. See the process through and go to tribunal if necessary. Good luck.
