How much would spend in your 17 year olds birthday?

Ds has been very challenging to say the last the last few months. For his birthday all he's asked for is money. He smokes and has previously been caught smoking weed so I've been really reluctant to give him any. However he hasn't given me any ideas. So basically Im going to give him £100 but if I catch him smoking weed then I done with giving him a penny more which I will be telling him. I've brought him coffee he likes, Nike socks and designer boxers. Lynx and aftershave so maybe £150 spent on him in total. He isn't bothered or mature enough for driving lessons which I would have brought. But under current circumstances I'm not overly on the mood to go out on his birthday. We will do a family meal with his gf and cake etc. Do you think this is enough? I think he will expect more.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense. I think I just feel guilty for the way I'm feeling about him and his birthday. I brought gifts and cake and planned a meal but I always planned to buy him driving lessons and have more of a fuss about him turning 17.

We spend about 200

Last birthday DS got a PS5, so they will all have around 600 for their 16ths.

When my dd turns 17 I'll pay 6 months upfront driving lessons

17th birthday is driving lessons in our house. So ongoing cost, rather than upfront costs.

I budget £100 for the actual day for my 17y old son + ongoing expenses for driving lessons (so £100 per month for some time). I wouldn't give £100 in cash if there was a risk of it being spent on weed. I would ask which vouchers he'd prefer (and would go with Amazon as a default option).

Normally spend around £100 on birthdays (its mid Feb and we spend more at Xmas).

This year he was 17 so it was a lot more as paid for licence, theory test, lessons, and practical test - but would have been doing that anyway. If he wasn't driving then it would be around £100.

Don’t give him any cash and maybe make him a ‘voucher’ for driving lessons, whenever he wants them.
I didn’t give my DS cash at that age for the same reason.
