School shoes

Dd is in yr 7 and wears orthotics and is VERY heavy in her feet. She has a 20-30 min walk both ways to school and is already on her second pair of brogues, and they won’t last much longer. She walks at an angle on one foot and wears a hole in the side of the heel. Any ideas? I’ve resorted to cheaper shoes as she wears supermarket or Clark’s shoes down equally. She wears orthotics so needs lace ups. I’m wondering if Air force 1’s would last longer for her?

these shoes are pricey, but I've bought several pairs by the brand now and can say that they last the full school year (have lasted my ds playing football in them etc). They also have a removable insole. The brand has been discontinued direct from the website, but amazon stock them

My son wears orthotics and he finds Dr Martens best. Especially as the boots give ankle support too. School are fine with him wearing them even though ordinarily they wouldn’t be allowed.

I was just coming on to say TREADS. Marvellous shoes.

Passthecake30 · 28/09/2021 22:58

Thanks! Treads look promising with their “indestructible” statement! I’ll give them a go.

Everyone I've recommended them too has been delighted. DS2 is sooooo hard on everything but these are on year 2 (Well, Covid put paid to loads of last year, but still) .

Ds1 also needs orthotics and has a similar length of daily walk. Weve gone the other way for him and he's currently in an expensive pair of Clarks men's shoes. We've also had success with Startrite and Ricosta when his feet were child sized but we always found paying for more expensive shoes cost less in the end.

Interestingly his orthotics have helped reduce the uneven wear his shoes used to get so that's less of an issue. He's on the waiting list for surgery.

Would agree with DMs. We are on our 3rd school year out of them (there has been a bit less wear of then due to lockdown of course)

I do that, when I was a kid I had heel protectors on mine, metal things where I wore them down

Passthecake30 · 29/09/2021 17:32

Thanks @gogohm, I’ve also ordered a pair of Clark’s with a “normal” heel (that can be reheeled, rather than one with grips) and I’m going to see what our local shoe mender can do.

I'd forgotten about Ricosta- they were unbreakable when DS1 had th about t years ago.
