Allowance for 16 yr old

Just wanted to get opinions about what is a reasonable allowance for a 16yr old. She starts sixth form college in a couple of weeks and so I have to factor in transport cost snd lunches, which I have already calculated.

Beyond that obv spending money. She's quite a charity shop shopper and while of course I will clothe her, she tends to pick up bits very cheaply while out with mates.

It would have to cover weekend transport, snacks and maybe a fast food lunch over weekend, make up, socialising etc.

We live in central London if that makes a difference 😊

My DD1 started college 6 years ago, DD2 starts next month.

For DD1 we gave £25 per month 'pocket money' and £50 'college money'. Not very much but it was for college lunches & discretionary spend only. We paid for her travel pass and all essentials. We also paid full costs of learning to drive. So this was for socialising, make up etc. We were willing to increase if needed.

We wanted her to learn how to budget and not spend money like water. College money would have stopped if she had dropped out.
We are probably on the 'tight' side.

@TeenMinusTests college money including (travel and lunch) will be around £120 per month. I'm thinking she needs at least £15 a week for herself. It sounds like such a lot though!

I might start by doing it weekly so it's easier for her to manage, snd then move to monthly once she's settled in.

This summer seems to have cost me a fortune for my 2 teens snd I have to admit we've been quite generous since pocket money kind of fell by the wayside since the first lockdown.

Round here the annual college bus passes are ~£800, so £120 per month incl lunch doesn't sound unreasonable.
DD1 made a 'profit' on our college money as most months included a half term or another break, and we didn't stop the money then. She also only needed 3 lunches a week iirc.

We are trying to work out what to do for DD2, as she isn't doing anything independently right now and will be taking food from home due to anxiety.

My DD (17) gets £30 / month pocket money.

She has £10/ week food money for 6th form. There is always the option to get a pack lunch.
No transport costs as able to walk.

Clothes, she gets about £100.- every 3- 4 months.

That's not much in the grand scheme of things, but all we can afford.
We give extra for going out with friends on the odd occasion.
I did tell her if she needs more, she should get a little job but she doesn't seem bothered at the moment...

Ds gets £25 from me and £25 from his grandparents. I also pay for his phone and cover travel costs etc
He's just landed himself a nice little part time job though, so may soon have a better disposable income than me!
