Period pants - how have your got on with them?

I’ve been expecting one of my DC to start for about 2 years. We have cotton san towels in the house, car and her room and an emergency bag with pants and towel.

She’s recently asked about other options for when she starts - she’s later than average (over 14) but this is because she is very very thin (not overweight but just her natural build she’s tall and Thin) she’s in adult clothes and a size 4-6.

How have your teenagers got on with period pants? Any plus or minus. Apart from cost (!) they seems to be about 3 main brands but all seem expensive(!)?

My preteen daughter is ASD. We've been using primark period pants. They are great!

I use the m&s high waisted ones (2x csections plus period bloating and they're heaven sent) and absolutely love them. Even when quite heavy I've never needed to change through the day and never leaked. Wouldn't go back to pads now. I bought 5 pairs for the price of 4 on offer and can't remember how much exactly but it wasn't anywhere near as much as the branded ones

They are really, really good. I have period swimwear as I leak when I have a tampon in & that ‘leak’ is probably the equivalent of most normal womens’ moderate period. The swimwear takes care of it. I rinse it out, it dries overnight, and is just a lifechanger. I wish I discovered them earlier.

Period Underwear is even better and I find they work even during my heaviest flows.

But you have to buy by hip measurement (not waist) for the padding to fall in the right place. She should just try lots of different types and see how she gets on. Lots of brands do ‘teen’ options which are cut slimmer than standard sizes.

My girls 12 & 10 use these from Amazon. They seem to work well for my 12 year old as she has a lighter flow. 10 year old is heavier so uses them with a pad in at night to stop leaks.

@Beamur

We have the Modibody ones. You get different absorbencies - same as with sanitary pads or tampons. More absorbent ones for heavier days. DD doesn't change at school and just showers and puts on clean when she gets home. I just stick them in the wash with everything else to be honest. Everything comes out clean.
I have these too. Well worth the cost.

@DragonLegs

Those who use modi bodi what is the sizing like? I’m about to buy for my 12 year old (very tall but slim) and ideally wanted them to last a couple of years.
Good but you need to get the hip measurement exactly right for them to work effectively. Depending on how your DD grows I think you’ll probably need to replace them within a couple of years.

TMI - but how do they cope with clots?

Petal7 · 27/08/2021 13:20

My dd and I are huge fans of period pants. We have the Cheeky Wipes ones.

We also have Modi bodi period swimsuits and they are truly life changing. No more missing out on swimming.

Lol about as well as a pad would. I just wipe them off when I go to the loo

@LittleBiscuit09

Primark three pairs for 13 quid! I live mine! Absolute game changer! And I can wear them all day with no issues.
Same here. You get 2 "medium"and 1 "heavy" flow. I wish I'd had these when I was a teenager! Couldn't live without them now.
CoolKitkat · 27/08/2021 19:51

@Ozanj Thanks, makes sense!

I can’t imagine it not smelling after a full day, guess there’s only one way to find out!

Menstrual cups are certainly getting popular. The latest is the Hey Girls which are stocked in some supermarkets and cost just under £9. Two sizes available. I hear that many cheerleaders, swimmers, and dancers use them and find them perfect but can take a little while to get used to one. My own daughter used one at 13 without any trouble. Now 16 she still uses it.

hiredandsqueak · 29/08/2021 15:41

I bought dd the Sainsburys ones and can't fault them, very comfortable and no leaks. She changes them morning and evening. She says she is never using towels again.

MaryTalbot · 30/08/2021 13:27

Thanks I think we will get the primary ones and go with that!! And see if they are any good.
M and S ones have terrible reviews
