Horror films for 13 year old?

My son is 13 and would like to watch some scary/gory horror films. Unfortunately most of the ones he's looked up are 18s. Can anyone recommend any decent ones up to age rating 15 please that your teenagers have actually enjoyed? Preferably Netflix Amazon Prime. Thank you!

The Quiet Place is a 15 I've just watched it with DD12

IndieTara · 13/08/2021 16:50

Also The Conjuring series of films are 15

Dog Soldiers -15 rating. werewolves - also hilarious as well as scary. My DS loved it at that age - still does!

Chihuahuacat · 13/08/2021 16:59

I loved horror films at that age! Some ok ones are:

The others
The strangers
Sixth sense
Signs
Blair Witch
The woman in black
Paranormal activity
Final destination

Thanks everyone, some great ideas. He's also interested in slasher horror (I know by its nature there won't be many 15s!)
Does anyone let their younger teens watch 18s? Apparently ALL his friends do but I think there is a wild exaggeration here!

The Babysitter on Netflix is a slasher/horror, but also a comedy. It’s like an all-American movie at the start, then it takes a gory turn. It’s brilliant!

Happy death day proper teenage film

Saucery · 13/08/2021 21:58

Zack Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead is ok. Also his more recent Army Of The Dead.
Keeping the zombie theme, Zombieland is an absolute hoot (swearing in it, but “Look at this fucking clown” is one of my favourite movie lines ever Grin

SheABitSpicyToday · 13/08/2021 21:59

Old films don’t seem that scary anymore. I had watched all of the nightmare on elm street films at that age and loved them.

55378OO8 · 13/08/2021 22:11

I enjoyed poltergeist as a teen (giving away my age Grin)

55378OO8 · 13/08/2021 22:14

Or Jaws? I agree with the pp that said that older movies might be a good bet.

Passthecake30 · 13/08/2021 22:15

Gremlins

gogojojo · 13/08/2021 22:24

My son (12) and I love to watch a horror I'll only let him watch 15s we loved the conjuring and annabelle films - prefer the spooky ones to the violent ones

AlwaysLatte · 13/08/2021 23:25

Oh some more good ones here, thank you! The Babysitter is probably up his street, I've not heard of that one. I agree that the older films are less scary - maybe because they're not as realistic as they are now. We watched the Shining, which he found quite scary (but loved it).

The shining is one of my all time favourite movies ; your son has great taste Smile

I watched and loved Hitchcock's 'the birds' at a similar age, it's scary without being too gory.

On the Stephen King theme, how about Carrie?

Christmasfairy2020 · 14/08/2021 20:46

Final destination amazon prime

eatmeplease · 20/08/2021 20:09

when he says all his friends do he means that all the friends he actually cares about do, not the ones that are old friends that you may be in touch with their parents. if i were you, you should let him watch any horror 18's because if he gets really scared at them then he will be cautios of watching them, if hes not cautios after then they're ok for him to watch
ive got one 15 thats on netflix thats good, its called the nun

i dont know if youve seen this already but it is very good and highly recommend

ps
ignore the username its the only thing i could think of that worked.
