Challenging times with twin 14 year old daughters. I've done a few online searches but not come across anything that I've found convincing yet. Looking for recommendations please - "paper" books, Audible, whatever, don't mind - husband and I just feel like we need some guidance from experts.....

I read 'Untangled' by Lisa Damour recently. I thought it was very good, and felt quite relevant. (I have a 14 yr old DD, and 13 yr old B/G twins.)

In what way are they been challenging

Saggybaggyaggy · 11/08/2021 21:34

The book you wish your parents had read by Phillipa Perry. Useful for all relationships I think. Lots of examples cite younger children but could be applied to anyone.

Yes @Saggybaggyaggy. I was going to say that one too, but I couldn't remember the title!

How to talk so teens listen and listen so teens talk.

Is the one that saved my sanity and improved my technique. Good luck 13/14 such a tricky age for girls. My DD is nearly 15 and thanks to the book and her maturing. Life is a lot easier!

All books mentioned above are very good and helped me cope when my DD was 14 👍🏻 I would also recommend Parenting a Teen Girl by Lucie Hemmen. Good luck @Arealnumber 🍀💐

Queen Bees and Wannabees is v good on teen girl friendships

Another vote for Untangled. I read it after a recommendation and found it very helpful.

Arealnumber · 14/08/2021 17:34

......just generally challenging in that teenage kind of way!
Thanks all - these sound just what I was hoping for.

What a great thread, I am definitely going to order some of these books!

I have twin daughters a few years older than yours and found ‘how to talk’ a great book also ‘get out of my life (but first take me to town)’ or similar title, can’t remember precisely. The brain development book by Sarah Jayne Blakemore is fab too.

My 17 year old daughter left home 6 weeks ago. We had an argument and altercation ( the day she received a lump sum from my late mother). I’ve raised her completely alone, very little support. I’ve had significant health problems and my stress has be relentless and escalated during COVID. She says she felt threatened and left. She is 18 soon. I cannot cope with us being estranged and I would love her to come home before going to university next year. We are communicating a little by text message. It’s tortuous. Any idea about what I should do? I don’t want to do anything rash. I lover her so much she is my only child. I keep telling her the door is open and that I love her.
