Just wondering what time your 13 year olds go to bed - both weekends/school hols and school nights? My boy is pushing for a later bedtime and wanted to get an idea of what the usual is. Thanks Smile

9.30/10 on school nights. Whenever she likes other nights, usually goes up by about 10.30 then reads for a while.

Goodtohear · 08/08/2021 13:41

Mine are 12 they go up at 9 on school nights to get ready for bed/read and lights out by 10. Weekends/holidays go up at 10 to get ready their usually both asleep by 10.30.

It all seems to gone out the window this holiday!

School nights we aim for 9:30pm lights off.

School nights- up to bed at 9, lights out at 10.

Weekends and holidays- lights out at midnight.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 08/08/2021 13:46

Lights off by 9.30 on school nights but devices away by 8.30. Holidays devices off by 9.30 and lights off 10ish

Similar to PPS, usually aim for 9.30, actually in bed closer to 10 on a school night.
I have 3 kids aged 12-14. One wakes up early and can fall asleep very early. I encourage him to go to bed early if he's had a few late nights or seems tired. The other two fall asleep late and wake late so I tend to leave them to it in the holidays and at the weekends.

My youngest is 14 and a half and he has until 11pm - this is both in the holidays and school days. I prefer 10.30 during school but it creeps towards 11. And then all devices out of room.

He's usually ready to sleep at 11

Yes we have a phone/tablet rule downstairs rule at night too.

Thanks everyone. We usually aim for 9.30 during school nights which sounds about right. The hols I have been going for 10 ish but think I will let it creep up a bit with maybe a couple of earlier nights if he seems tired. This has really helped Smile

9.30 on school nights
Allowing 10 now it's school holidays

He moans about these as apparently his friends stay up later. I thought he was lying or perhaps his friends were lying to show off but he showed me his class group chat and some of the kids were still messaging at 1am Shock

DS12 10pm to bed and settled on a school night. He naturally goes to bed happily at this time when he is up at 6.45am, has full days at school plus has three football training sessions.

Friday and Saturdays he is allowed 10.30pm/11 but no later as he has matches the next mornings.

Holidays generally he is on playstation until 10.30pm with friends, sleep by 11/11.30pm (I think as I'm usually asleep due to a whirlwind toddler who dislikes sleep)... But he does sleep in until 9am during the holidays...

Dd 13 is generally asleep by 11 on a school night. In the holidays I don’t really check what time she goes to sleep. Normally Later than me! She’s never needed much sleep, even when she was little, so this suits her fine.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 10/08/2021 07:44

Currently having this debate with my 13, almost 14 year old twins! DD1 doesn't seem to need much sleep and likes to stay up as late as possible and so has a hard limit of midnight in the holidays... in term time we've negotiated 10:45 for getting ready and lights out 11/11:15 for a 7:15/30 rise. DD2 takes after me and loves her sleep so generally takes herself off to bed between 10:30 and 11 in holidays and 9:30-10 in term time... she generally wakes a little earlier though.

As for DS (16), he's has always been early to bed and rise and even in holidays tends to take himself to bed at 10/10:30 and up about 6/6:30!

Rupertpenrysmistress · 10/08/2021 07:51

My dd 13 loved her sleep so thankful that she is in bed always by 10 term time and holidays, her brother however 🙄, he is 12 and never wants to go to bed, it's 10pm during term time and 11-11:30 during holidays.
