My son will be 13 in January and when they broke up he was still in the same school trousers as he was in September!!

He is very much still a little boy - I see him naked in the shower and there is no growth/ no where near puberty! .

Physically he is solid, looks healthy but height wise just much smaller than his friends.

I am 5.4 my husband is 5.9.

When do I start to worry ? He is self conscious.

Has he had covid as that can affect thyroid?

With trousers the fitted ones are on the long sde. My dd is 122 at 6.0yo.
So height of 7yo. But i think has been wearing 5-6 up to 116cm trousers. Whereas legging or joggers she can wear 7-8 at least. So up to 128cm.
My kids last the school year in trousers as have summer birthdays.
25th centile doesnt sound that far off as you are 50th and so is your dp.

He hasn't had covid that I am aware of

@Notthecarwashagain hi glad your son is ok - so I guess that medication is for life?

My son looks a picture of health but he does complain of headaches, poor concentration at school, dizzy spells do maybe all linked.

Doctor is calling me later as a receptionist telling me over the phone is no help to a worried mother.

@Remmy123 Yes it’s for life, the 6 monthly checks are with his endocrinologist and the dose has gradually gone up- he definitely does seem a lot better on it.

Hope you get some news soon, it’s horrible not knowing what’s happening!

Remmy123 · 04/08/2021 09:48

I'm glad he is better on it. The plus side is that if it is thyroid then this could hopefully sort growth / poor concentration etc out

He is already on another medication for life it wil literally be two health conditions diagnosed within 6 months - unreal!

Is the other one autoimmune like t1?

OP I was coming on to say that at 13/14 DS towered over his classmates and then they all overtook him and are above 6ft as young men whilst ds is about 5'10 (and a half).

It may be the thyroid that has slowed his growth but with treatment he will almost certainly catch up and it's brilliant it has been picked up as now it can be dealt with. He will probably need a paediatric endocrinologist - if you are London/Surrey I can recommend one who is good with young people although not solely paediatric.

I had thyroid disease diagnosed much later and honestly it has rarely given me an ounce of bother. The British Thyroid Foundation has very good resources and a support line for thyroid disease in children. Give them a Google.

Good luck to you and your ds.

I have 12yr old twins, younger one is 20kg and 25cm bigger than his brother and needs a shave every couple of weeks. The older one (1 whole minute) is still very much a little boy... most importantly he IS growing moved up from 0.4 percentile to 4th :) but just not as fast as his brother.

They grow at different rates, the bigger one was 2lb smaller at birth :)

When my daughter was at senior school it seemed that most of the boys didn’t grow really until late year 8 and through year 9. The lads seemed so much younger looking & shorter against the girls!

One lad was still only around 5.5 at 15/16 he recently attended my daughters 18th and was was 6.1! Took me by surprise as he was always the shortest - now he’s one of the tallest!

No idea if thyroid makes a difference hopefully GP can advise?

@PostMenWithACat yes I am in Surrey - thanks I'll DM you if it becomes necessary! X

@HSHorror he was diognosed with ulcerated colitis 6 months ago 😓😓

This is a boy that never gets colds / sick bugs etc and all this happening so quickly I can barely control the worry
