Dd18 had so many plans for this summer - along with all the rest of us, I know!

Anyway, she wants to get away somewhere/anywhere for a week or two where she can be with other young people. The sort of thing where she gets room and board in return for some work. We're happy to pay her travel expenses.

Any suggestions/recommendations gratefully received Thanks

When my son was at university he used to volunteer with CHICKS , I think they’ve changed their name to Go Beyond . They do children’s holidays for child carers , disadvantaged children etc . He usually did a week at Easter and a week in the summer somewhere in Cornwall . May be too late for this year but worth a look , mine really enjoyed it.

What about the National Trust? This one is for a bit longer than may suit, but they have other vacancies too:

WWOOFing might be a good place to look. Its worldwide, but there surely will be some UK based options.

You could try the Guides or Scouts maybe? Guides are opening their centres up over the summer holidays.
My DSD did some kind of mentoring scheme that included taking a load of kids on a residential week away.

Festivals are always looking for volunteers. There are plenty of events that need first aiders.
Has she considered Camp America, it may be too late this year but she could always fast track her application for next.

Thank you.
She's going to research these tonight and see what appeals.

Waterway Recovery Group (WRG) travel around the country restoring canals from bricklaying to removing tree stumps (very satisfying) and scrub bashing. Variety of ages, some doing DOE Award. Safety & training given. When trained can drive dumper trucks etc. Very sociable & satisfying. Get mucky, tired but fed & pub in evening. Just need sleeping bag etc as slept in village halls, school halls.
Is restoration arm of Inland Waterways Association.
