My ds 15 is on whole a good.lad, relatively sheltered life we live in the country he goes to a boys school. Good.looking lad (yeah I'm.biased) fit he runs a lot, he's just got himself a job at the local.pub which he enjoys. He seems.to.have worked really hard for his exams but... he never goes out he texts friends and mentions them but his social group has changed so.much in the.last year or two he doesn't seem to.ever or want to go.anywhere
Even before lockdown he's always been reluctant to join in stuff and says he sees enough of his friends at school. Should I be concerned? Hes also taken to.managing us very well, what he tells us how he tells.us sometimes I'm.not sure what to believe, we've had all sorts lately from ' the teachers reduced the.exam time.by 15mins in the exam.room ' ' I got a b and c in my maths papers when i looked at the equivalent gcse pass.marks' he actually got 44% and 26%! I love the bones of him.he is.my world. Does this sound normal teenager? I just want him to be happy open and honest and worry he's not. I could do with some wose words

My son was a home body too, complete opposite to me and I was a bit stressy about it but he said the same about seeing his mates at school. Now he's older he has a nice balance but loves coming home even though he's at uni now so my advice would be just let him do his own thing.

Nothing wrong with asking for a meeting with his teachers if you're worried about his grades.

A C grade could be 26% if done on Higher Tier (are you iGCSE or Wales as England is now grades 1-9).

Do you not get a report from the school showing his grades. Higher and lower levels will be different.
If he has a job and seems happy enjoy his happiness with him.
With covid19 no one was allow out anyway
My dd 16 was at local discos and meeting friends before covid now she is nowhere.

I've heard reports other classes had a very low median, seriously if the whole year is a low median then maybe the test was hard generally, I'm not looking for excuses just reasons why..he is at a public school so the standard is generally high but what's the point in setting such a hard test,.if it was hard... I dont know

If they have set a GCSE Higher tier paper then the scores sound about right for the grades you said (apart from the letters v numbers query, hence my asking if it is iGCSE or you are in Wales. Maybe iGCSE as a public school.)
Do you know what set he is in for maths? Compared with a state comp, if he is bottom set but still getting B/C that is definitely high. Top sets should have been getting higher grades.
They need to be setting real maths papers at this stage so the less able pupils learn not to panic if they get half way and then can't access the remaining questions. That is how it is in the real exams.

This is useful to see what 26% actually means.. www.elitetuition.com/breakdown-of-the-9-1-gcse-mathematics-achievement-criteria/

If he’s happy, then I’d leave him be personally.
