Help.... My daughter didn't want to go to university and has spent 7 months in the last year volunteering as a TA at a couple of primary schools. She loves it.

She has just secured a first round interview reading aloud, online to a group of Y1 children.

She's a bit nervous. All the more so as she's autistic (awaiting diagnosis but shows many traits).

Does anyone have any tips or hints they can share? She's googled and got a few tips around the process, but I thought I'd ask around for any hints or tips that might help. Thank you

I don't have any tips as I've only read in schools but you can try the advice on these organisations that now read online in schools.

Thank you. I will forward these on to her. I don't think she stands much chance of getting the job. She doesn't have enough experience of intervention work, but I'm hoping her love for the kids and her enthusiasm will carry her through! Unlikely I know. I have also asked about apprenticeships but they are few and far between. Oh, the joys!

Ok sure she has thought of this but I would be thinking

How and why is it different or difficult for child to engage with online reading - and what ideas to overcome this

Strategies to engage a child who does not like reading.

Mitigating WiFi issues that could interrupt a session.

Particular books that work well
On line and those that don't

I think they will mostly be wanting to see that she chooses an appropriate book, is engaging and interacts well with the children. She could have some questions ready to ask the children at the end to check comprehension and also maybe at a couple of points through the story if there are any bits of vocabulary or concepts she might want to check the children understand.

She could maybe consider reading something like Bear Hunt that children could actively join in with.
